"Embracing" is not the word I would use - it was more like using it because there was no alternative it seems to me - now the F55 is around that seems to be all the rage there, plus the Amira is the new darling especially amongst camera operators, and a lot of buzz around Bristol about the new Varicams. Epic seems to have been forgotten about for some reason.
I really like the Epic, but I think the Beeb has such a history of Sony and Panasonic use that they just feel more comfortable in that environment, could just be my imagination though.

I'm not allowed to give out too much detail, but I can assure you that the NHU has shot, and continues to shoot prolific amounts of work on EPIC-MX and Dragon; Their own cameras, cameras supplied by freelance operators and cameras supplied by 3rd party providers.
The vast majority of Life Story is RED.
One Planet is a huge project and Dragons are not only subject matter.....

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Epic as I just said, it's just that I've just that all talk around Bristol, both BBC and indies, is F55, Amira and Varicam - even though the Epic is now actually cheaper than any of those!

I think we're in the same camp Ben when listening to all these debates about cinematic images and this camera has this look and this camera can't do that look etc....Basically most decent cameras today can make quality images and be made to have more or less whatever look you want - you just need talented people shooting and editing the stuff.

Completely agree. Now one is not limited by cameras, but by ideas.
