  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Basic Production Pack

Hey Jarred, are the screws that hold the rods onto the rail system still 1/4"-20? They look a little smaller now.

those are thumbbolts now (waiting for them to come in)

Excellent... I assume that the screws on the bridge plates will be thumbbolts as well?

An interesting idea with this package would to mount a follow focus upsidedown on some short rods on top. This should make Nikkors focus the correct direction.

Not a bad idea... The LFF-1 can actually mount on a 19mm rod above the lens on a 235 as is - I bet it'd work in exactly the same manner here.

Why did they pick the OC head?

Why did they pick the OC head?

Looks sweet! So, the basic production pack now comes with an OConnor 2060 head? ;)

No, but if you fly into John Wayne to get your RED in person, you can pick up your O'Connor rig at the same time near the end of the airport runway.

Chad O'Connor loved steam power and earned his first Oscar with Walt Disney's True Life Adventure Films... or for his love of "iron" horseracing depending on who is telling the story. ;)

They did keep a real steam train at the OC shops for many years:

That's enough history for this one photo that points to the future of film!

P.S. It seems that men who like fast wheels make the best toys/tools!

P.P.S. Will Jim win an Oscar if he has a dragster stored at the RED Shop?

Hey Jim, don't forget to make the 19mm to 15mm adapter piece as cheap as possible! I want the premium pack, but will have to wait to get it, so this piece will help tremendously to get my by. Thanks!

Are you talking about the one that was attached to a Panavision and the plane didn't quite make it off the ground in time. I think I heard this story from Doug Hart. :poster_oops:

Can someone from Red confirm that we'll be able to buy an extra grip if needed? Also, I can't really see on the picture but does the basic pack still come with the shoulder pad?

The LCD and EVF come with the RED ARM - an articulated arm with 1/4"-20 mounting points. You put it anywhere you see a hole on the production pack... anywhere you want it... up to 10 feet from the camera.

Yes, I believe we have all been clear on that point for some time now. The question is - where do they "both" mount on the current setup of the basic production pack? As per this picture http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3269 there seems to be only 4 small holes below the upper handle (seems a little crowded to mount both the evf and monitor there). Also, if you look at the older renders on the red.com photo tour http://www.red.com/photo-tour.shtml none of those renders with attachments match any longer. Besides, most of thise renders also have the upper rods (which the basic pack does not have).

So, will we need the premium pack to mount both or upgrade the basic pack and add one or two flat grips/side mounts (though does that require upper rods as well and you are basically upgrading to the premium pack)?

Cheers,
Dale

Couldn't come up with a different way to phrase that?

For handheld operation, the ARM could be mounted next to the top handle on the upper rail mount. I believe it could also mount to the front of the rail mount. You could mount it to the handle if you wanted. There are plenty of places to mount both the EVF and LCD on this setup. Hell, as of what I saw at NAB, you could mount it directly to the camera body. If you don't find it adequate, you could buy the rear upper rail mount or a bridge plate or the "cage" handle or any number of individual parts to meet your specific requirements.

Everybody will have a different idea of their perfect setup... The production packs are just two ready-made options to start with if you so choose.

I'm not from RED, but they have confirmed in the past that all parts are available individually.

And yes, this package does come with the shoulder pad (per RED's website).

So, mostly it may be at the left side of the camera.

But...... if you hold the Red by the top handle, can the top handle be adjusted to slide to the left a bit? Because the weight of the EVF will tilt the Red to the left - and you dont want that.
