Hey all

We recently finished this commercial for a national exhibition here in Switzerland. It was shot on a MRMOCO (SFH-30 on linear motor, on a DIY base type of thing to get the head upside down) motion control rig. We used the RED 18-85 zoom and shot in timelapse mode at 4K, 500 frames total.

Edit: I should mention that the exhibition is about the evolution and state of our planet and today's scientific research.

LITTLE MAKING OF:

(it doesn't look like it here but it was a lot, A LOT of work! :)

To make the amount of animated objects manageable (max. 2 people at a time animating) and not lose track of how which object was moved, we split it up into sections and later comped them together.
We used The Foundry's Nuke (RED deal) and it proved invaluable, especially the Furnace plugins which made lining up the different takes (different sections) fairly easy, as we had some discrepancies among the takes. Nuke is one of the best and most powerful software packages I've ever worked with. The interface and tools make so much sense, it's incredible.

Hope you like it, enjoy...

I loved this. There is something still that is so magical about stop action. I've never really thought of Red as a stop-action camera, but clearly you demonstrate that it can be!

wow, amazing

Wow, was just about to leave my office and thought I'd check reduser one last time and here are all these nice comments. Thanks guys!

I agree, there is something magical about stop motion. It's ironical though, if you think that we first constructed everything in 3D, printed the layouts out on paper and glued everything back together again. We could have simply gone 3D all the way, but there are so many little things that 3D just can't replace - not with our resources anyway.
