  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Base Production Pack Components

Thanks Digitalfx. I hadn't realized the FF-5 was spec'd for cine lenses with smaller diameter barrels. I have an older Arri Follow focus and would like to upgrade it for my Red package. What would you suggest? I do plan to use it with a set of Zeiss Superspeeds (original Mk I fitted with gears and PL about 10 years ago), A Zeiss 10-100 converted to PL, and a few other 16 lenses that were previously converted to PL.

I also have the deposit on the Red 18-50 zoom and the prime set

thanks,
max

I hope your not planning on using Cine lenses with the FF5. The FF5 is for video lenses.

You can use the FF5 with smaller cine lenses as it accepts all the Arri follow focus gears. It also has it's own dedicated snapon (tooless) 15mm rod to 19mm rod adapter.

just because it uses the same gears does not mean it will work properly...be careful, it wont work on Ultra Primes...I'm sure Super Speeds will have the same issues.

1. the arm is too long and does not reach the lenses properly.
2. You have to rotate the knob twice as far to focus
3. Arri clip-on matte box will not fit with several lenses when using FF5.

I returned mine and got the FF4 which works perfectly.

btw- the FF4 uses a similar 19mm adapter, though it doesn't look as cool and it requires a bolt to attach,- once attached you can use both 15mm lw and 19mm interchangeably...honestly though unless you are hand-held, a follow focus on 15mm rods is not ideal.

Where did you get yours? I have an order worked up by Stan at Filmtools. They list the FF-5 but not the 4. Also, are you saying the FF4 comes standard as 15mm and needs the adapter for 19mm? Does the adaptor bolt onto the bottom and leave the holes for 15mm?

I agree with you about that, 19mm was a rare thing to find now that I have all 15mm support gear Red comes in with 19mm which is a nice heavier way to go I am sure with 5000 cameras coming out with 19mm it will become the standard everywhere.

yes, your photo is the ff4 and that shows exactly how it is set up for 19mm rods.

But note that 15mm rods can be configured two ways, LW (lightweight) which is the spacing in the holes above or the same spacing as the 19mm rods which requires another $600 adapter.

Generally I only use the two set-ups in the photo. LW or Studio...but the FF4 is a heavy beast if you are trying to build a LW rig.

I would agree it would be very heavy for a lightweight 15mm set-up. I have an Arri Liteweight that I've used on my SRII for many years and hope to use it for the handheld and liteweight stuff.

Can I ask you another question? You seem to have already headed down the path I am on. What focal length Ultra Primes did you buy? Was there a considerable price differential between the Masteprimes and UPs? I take it from your review you actually liked the look of the Ultraprimes over the Masterprimes. I am in the unenviable position of owning a set of MkI superspeeds and not being able to find a set of MkIIIs. I have a deposit on a set of Red Primes. I'm considering selling the the MkIs, dropping the reservation on the Red,s and biting the bullet on a new set of primes. It puts the day rate on my package higher -- and I only plan to rent this package to my own shoots. Why did you choose to upgrade?

I have a full set:
Arri Zeiss Ultra Prime 12mm T2
• Arri Zeiss16mm UltraPrime T1.9
• Arri Zeiss 24mm UltraPrime LDS T1.9
• Arri Zeiss 32mm UltraPrime LDS T1.9
• Arri Zeiss 50mm UltraPrime T1.9
• Arri Zeiss 85mm UltraPrime T1.9
• Arri Zeiss 135mm UltraPrime T1.9

I have owned these for awhile as we shoot most of our TV spots on 35mm or w/ Pro35 adapter. The lenses paid for themselves in rental savings long ago.

I didnt even consider the Master primes as I like the look of the Ultras better, besides the masters are too heavy.

You wont be dissapointed w/ Ultra primes but only if you shoot enough to justify the cost....otherwise you are better of renting.

Hi

Nice set!! Unusual to see a 12mm outside of a dedicated camera hire house

We spoke a little via PM... Do the LDS contacts marry correctly with your RED and is there any Meta data available today?

regards

Michael

PS Remember me if you decide to upgrade your non-lds..

PPS Arri hasn't got back to me.

I do not see the images on my PC! What is wrong?

why dont i see the pics that are posted on this page?

Apparently the pics were links off a server, and something was changed on that server. It's been months, so I put up the above diagram for a start. If you have any specific questions or diagrams you would like, I'd be glad to help.

I need some advice. I'm placing a request at my school for two reds and a full lens set (two zoom lens, the prime set and the 300mm). I really only have one shot at this so I want to make sure I have a complete configuration. This is what I have so far.

Item
2 Red One Body
2 Base Production Pack
2 Red LCD
1 Red EVF
1 Red Power Pack
2 Red Brick
2 Red flash Module
4 Compact Falsh

1 Red 18-50 Zoom
1 Red 50-150 Zoom
1 Red 300mm Prime
1 Red Prime Set

The cameras will be used primarily in a sound stage, but may go out (with instructor supervision) in the field. I'd like the full cage around the camera, I think that would help thier preservation around students. What other pieces do I need?

Also we will be mounting matte boxes and follow focuses on the camera, do I need longer rods?

Is there an advantage to having the disk drives as well as falsh modules?

Also I need hand held capability, what other pieces do I need for that?

What tripods would you guys recommend? I've been looking at Miller's, Cartoni's, OConnor and Satchler.

We're considering a steadicam setup any recommendation?

Finally video village setup I really have no clue here, will a Panasonic HD monitor suffice or is there more I need to consider?

I have found bits and pieces of this info in various threads but now that the cameras have been on the streets for a while I was hoping for some updated info.

Thanks Guys and Gals,
Gopher

1. if you use different lenses and configurations, it would be good to have the 24" rods.

2. Drives: 320 GB ---- 2hrs of 4k redcode raw, but dangerous in shaky situations

3.
Handheld:1. red handle mount, left handle , universal mount
2. zacuto stuff

4. there was a o`connor group buy here
5. steadycam: people used, just a few, so you gotta search in the forum
you will need some extra cable, if i am not wrong
take a look to action cam:
http://actionproducts.ch/en/actioncam/red-edition.html

6. video village-- dont know

what to order more:
if 15 mm based MB and FF: 15 mm Adaptor and a UNIVERSAL MOUNT
Focus Hook Set
Bolt set ( Allen key included)
safety: esata cable, lcd or evf cable ( they are the same actually)
more batteries, better for 2 reds: 3 chargers + 6 batteries: batteries run for 90 min. loads 80 % in 120 min., loads full in 200 min.
ac adaptor
more cf cards: these are the cheapest parts, dont be stingy
cheeseplate
top mount+ top handle ext. + 2x 12"cf rods: cool low angle shots

for cf cards: use lexar cf card readers, or nexto cf storage solution
2 sidehandles: mount the cam in crazy places

red will offer a MB, cheaper REDROCK MB, or ARRI MB20
element technica will have some cool 3rd party things
severel breakout boxes will be offered,

hi,
does the red drive come with the eSATA cable?

For connection to the camera (not to a PC), yes. Connection to a computer is via firewire (both 400 and 800 I believe) and USB2.

Cheers,
Damien
