  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Base Production Pack Components

Hi earthling,

First figure:

You can read again the text: H - RED cradle (it includes the battery plate).
The battery plate (G) is in the first photo to show it better. With the base pack, only an unit it is delivery.

Second figure:

The side handles don't require universal mounts.

Please. Read the text again. It does not say that you need two units of universal mount for hold side handles:

J - Universal mount ($100 each). Only you need purchase one, for use the Top Handle Ext (I). Other already brings the Basic Production Pack.

Both universal mounts is for the top handles, and one already comes in the base production pack.

And three: YES you need the pair of top rods.

How you will mount the side handles...?

Cheers!

PTV

PTV, Damien is saying you don't need the rods to mount the top handle and top handle extension if you're not using the side handles, but you do need the rods to mount the side handles. So he's not disagreeing with you on those counts. He is correct about the use of the top mounts rather than universal mounts to attach the top handle and extension. There's no way to attach the universal mount directly to the top of the camera. They only mount onto the rods. BTW, thanks for doing the diagram - great job.

Hi,

It was confirmed recently that the EVF and LCD both include arm and cable.

Hi,

The Sticky it was corrected today.

Thanks to all!

Hi PixelTV, I just said I thought it was confusing. If the purpose is to understand what composes the basic prod package, I wouldn't put the battery plate twice, that's all. You have made it a little more clear now though.

I didn't say you needed UNIVERSAL MOUNTS for the SIDE HANDLES, I'm saying that on your second diagram, the camera shown does NOT have UNIVERSAL MOUNTS on the top of the camera. To attach either the TOP HANDLE EXT. or rods to the top of the camera, you need a second TOP MOUNT !

You cannot attach UNIVERSAL MOUNTS to the top of the camera, unless you've put rods in the first place, which requires TWO TOP MOUNTS. The TOP HANDLE EXT. does not attach itself to a UNIVERSAL MOUNT. Believe me, I've been looking into this very closely. Check again, you are misleading people.

Cheers,
Damien

edit : I posted before seeing adaml's response... (and I'd forgotten to include the ...)

Pixel, thanks for the work putting this together. I still think its a mistake to show the battery plate in the first image. It is an optional part sold for a different purpose...yes it is confusing. Why dont you just add the words "includes battery plate" under Part H.

also in the second image you are showing the Top Handle "B" again, but its already included in the Basic Production Pack.

just my .02

Peace,... brother

PTV

amen brother...

great job, (I think you should put the image 2 back in now that it's correct)

Cheers,
Damien

edit : PS just another small tiny weany comment about the second image, you don't need the rods for the top mounts, but you do need the top mounts for the rods.

Pixel or RED Crew:
Regarding the store catalog:

There is a RED quick plate which clearly is for mounting the battery without the drop in magazine. What then is the "quick plate" at the bottom of the page. Does this function to somehow mount the RED quick plate to the camera? what does it do and how does it work?

What is a "Focus Hook Set"?

There is a "15mm adapter" it looks like it adapts to light weight support ie 15mm 60mm ctr like Chrozeil Petroff use? if this is so then where is the 15mm 100mm ctr. Arri style rod adapter? Or maybe thats it, then where is the light weight support 15mm rod adapter?

There is a "Red top mount" $250, Is it the same height as the handle mount included with the basic production pack so that by removing the two screws in the top of the handle base taking off the round handle I will have an attacment point for low mode steadicam work using only one additional top mount?

Friggin Awesome, just what the doctor ordered.....along with the cheeseplate

Does anyone know if you can remove the battery plate from the cradle. If so, can you mount the battery plate to the camera or rods somehow?

Yeah, it seems that there should be a cheaper Red Quickplate that doesn't include the battery plate and cable, for people who already have those. Perhaps that one of the options that they haven't had a chance to list yet?

Hi TJ,
You're talking about the QUICK PLATE ADAPTOR. I asked Brian Ferguson at the Red booth at IBC about that, but he didn't know. I'm guessing it just allows more mounting option for the RED QUICKPLATE since it only has one hinge (verses the cradle which has two), but it certainly isn't necessary as has been shown by Jim on Prague.

What is a "Focus Hook Set"?

That's been answered already.

The 15MM ADAPTOR is the light weight one, there is also an ARRI 15MM BASE, see here : http://www.red.com/store/product_detail/43

There is only one type of TOP MOUNT, so yes they are the same, and you could use a second one to do the above.

All this info comes from close observation and asking question at IBC where they had quite a few of the spare parts on exhibit and printed lists of all the others.

Cheers,
Damien

This should be a sticky. Nice work.

Fine tune it.

What Parts in the Old Premium Production Pack not in the Basic Production Pack.
And
What parts in the Prague setup not in the Basic Production Pack.

This will give us a good idea of what we need.

I second that. Especially on the Prague setup.

By the way, the cable that comes with the purchase of the EVF and LCD, how long is it?

And how long is the cable that is currently sold seperately ? I remember it was about 10 feet, but from the visual it looks pretty short.

Any ideas?

aaaah tape hook! Thanks for the clarifications. So if 18" rods come with the basic kit and I have a top handle and a second top mount above then what rod length is used at the top to simply go from end to end of the mount travel on the top of the body?

12" rods

Thanks PIXELTV for your informative work. Now, if I want to use RED ONE only with LCD and CF (to make it light) how I would connect the battery to the body of camera?

Marvelous job PTV!!

To the Red folks - it'd be nice if the descriptions on the store could be added, a few alternate pictures would be nice too...
