  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bad news...

This nightmare in Japan will probably have some far more life changing consequences on our lives. It may turn into something dreadful.

A proactive Red Red idea

A proactive Red Red idea

Just as Apple have a line of products that are Red from which a percentage goes to fight HiV in Africa, why not have a line of Red Red products/ accessories/ clothing etc., that also a percentage could be used to help a charity in Japan? Special edition products that you may elect to pay a slight premium for, that you know is also going to a good cause.

Don't beat yourself over this. Not much else to do then calm down and keep looking for else were for supplier. We understand the delay. Just keep up with the updates! Does the fixed Scarlet miss more than 18 peaces?

Many of the scarlet fixed waiters like myself have waited for years even to the exclusion of all other cameras for good reason. We were waiting many many years for that camera before RED even existed. We will wait.

Besides, 18 parts out of 18,000? You're 999th of the way there.

Yea seriously, you could have kept us happy with Red MX for at least a few more years. You keep raising the bar which is amazing for all of us but don't be disappointed. You're not God. We're all human beings and life is more important than any material possession. I'll continue making amazing imagery with what I have TODAY not what's here tomorrow. We appreciate the transparency as usual.

Don't worry!! Outstanding company! Outstanding work!! Life is life...

I guess we are all disappointed, but that's nothing compared to what's going on there (and things we don't know!)!
And hey! We still have a Red one to shot!!... Still performing great!! Nothing has changed in that matter!
Here is the kind of work I'm doing while I wait :) So happy with this camera!

We are here listenning and waiting quietly...
Take care!

There are people in northern Japan who are walking in radiation trying to stop the incredible madness... they are walking in radiation that will affect their lives forever. And we are worried about supply chain? It just doesn't seem right.

The balance in the world is much more delicate than we could ever imagine. A camera? A life?

Jim

Yeah I thought this was pretty insane too. Some of the people of Japan are basically sacrificing themselves to keep all that radiation under control as much as they can and that is absolutely amazing.

Don't be too hard on yourself Jim, after all, your not responsible for the earths natural distasters.

Today was another day that I couldn't stop thinking about EPIC, RED and all the things you and your team have made possible. I just end up getting totally excited thinking about all the possibilities that EPIC opens up. It's because of your work and dedication that I am going to be attempting to move into completely freelance work this year. Armed with an EPIC-S, I know there will be jobs available that I never could have attempted. For me you are literally creating employment opportunities.

Though I can understand that transparency in cases like these gets you down, please know that it's that sort of transparency that makes me so excited to be a part of RED. No other company treats it's customers like RED do. I feel like I am on the journey with you guys.

So thank you to you Jim and the whole RED Team. You're hard work and dedication are both acknowledged and appreciated!

Please take care of yourself - health comes before work :)

Wait some months vs. 10 years (for some other company to offer a similar package starting at 100K) I can't understand where is the big deal? In some months we'll have a camera 10 years ahead everything else, really, no big deal. And more time to gather the money for those of us in really difficult times (economically speaking).

Japanese people has more troubles in mind now, let's hope they mend it with the least people been harmed and then let's worry about silly things (in comparison to the lives of those people) like having a camera 10 years ahead it's time.

No worries here. Great job RED TEAM, and great sensibility to those who are having such a bad moment. I really appreciate that in a company, that's why I love RED.

I have to say, quite candidly, that there are days when I wonder if this is all worth it.
...
Life is full of obstacles. They never end. The ones the get past them have the richest life.

I consider myself lucky.

Jim

You guys are doing what the entire industry was waiting for from the big boys. And at a price that makes you think these things fell of the back of a truck. The other companies still don't have a clue, judging by their 'prototypes'.
Slow down on the meds and shoot some cool images to post here. Or do something else to unwind.
But take care of yourself, we don't have enough people like you around the globe anyway. So you need not rush to the exit... :-)

The entire world is waiting for pieces from Japan, so we're all in the same boat. Since we're all just drifting around, we might as well throw a fishing rod and relax a little.
Japan will be preoccupied for quite some time to come, which is understandable. So we'll wait, silently and dignified, as events like these call for...

Best, Oliver

Jim, as someone on the ground here in Japan, who has recently been up near Fukushima and in the devastated areas with a TV crew to show the world what has happened, I think the thing Japan will appreciate most is that you stick by your suppliers who are affected by the disaster and help them recover by allowing them to get back on top of production as soon as possible and not cancelling orders.

We can wait for cameras.

But your spirit of looking after people when they are down (Lance Armstrong is just one example of your generosity) will mean that your suppliers here who you support now in their time of greatest need will NEVER forget that you stood by them. That kind of loyalty (and the Japanese spirit of obligation that will follow) will permeate through the industry here and you will have partners for life, who will do their best for you not because you pay them, but because you cared about them beyond monetary values. As we do already as clients of yours, because of your loyalty to each and every one of us.

As always, thanks for being so open and frank with us, through good and bad. It's appreciated.

Cheers from Japan,

Paul

In the overall scheme of things, this delay is nothing. I am sure that Jim and the whole Red crew can count on the continuing support of Red owners.

Jim, you truly can't worry about the things that you can not change; The weather, earthquakes and natural disasters. Two of my closest friends are in Tokyo with their families, they have to run a geiger counter over their food and they are running out of trustable water. The only silver lining we could find on my last phone call to Tokyo was that they are in the solar business and we could not see how anyone could go back to conventional power after this. I could never fault you or Red with doing anything but putting in a 1000% with you best foot forward in some of the most difficult times, through the US economic collapse and Tokyo. That is all anyone can do and it is what has made me and everyone here die hard Red users. Unfortunately it looks like the world is headed for some very hard times and having the best story telling machine available to pass the art and history that comes from these times is no trivial thing. Thank You.

Ok thank you for your honesty - it makes total sense and is totally understandable - other manufacturers have similar problems.
Please keep on doing what you are doing - I hope you not totally run bankrupt before your dream materializes - this future customer is waiting for this camera no matter how long it takes - I have been waiting 10 years for the perfect camera I can wait another 10 if it has to be - and maybe at the point of arrival I can update to an X from an S ;) its going to work out in the end for everybody I am sure - good luck for sorting out the problems…

Hi Jim,

These are your words :

It is still early innings.

The MXed RED ONE is a remarkable creation. It still has a lot of great movies to make and unique moments to document. You should pick up your trusty old pal now and again and think about how far it came, and how fast. I do.

EPIC will have its time.

We are living in an age of madness, when we need to muster all the love for the planet and its people that we can. It is the only antidote to despair.

Hi Jim.

we are now looking at how to make more EPIC-Ms available to EPIC-X customers

Are we looking at some new offers for EPIC X Stage 2 customers ?

Thks
