Sometime ago I recall seeing that someone had figured out a good film/photography backpack to hold an assembled Red. Does anyone know/remember what that is?

Shawn i just picked up this bad boy....

http://www.tamrac.com/5588.htm

It's very well built, and actually has the types of shoulder and hip straps you would expect from a serious, top-end outdoors backpack.

As I travel all over the place and use mostly primes in photography, the back pack must be as big as allowed by air travel restrictions, so I found that the Kata HB-207 GDC Hiker Backpack, does just that, what you have to do, is take out the waiste belt, as this makes look much like a regular back pack, instead of a Hiker back pack.

I used with so many different configurations depending on the need for that particular trip, and the RED fits perfectly with all the accessories.

Sorry for the attachment as I trashed my Photo Camera, and awaiting replacement.

You can get it at B&H, with or w/o trolly.

Thanks Ketch. I like this one and I like B&H. What's the very lightest, most compact tripod and fluid head combination you can think of that will support the Red One and could be "carried on" a bus, plane or train along with this backpack? Or do you pretty much just go handheld in those situations?

Welcome.

I have used just about any company's back pack, and really like the build quality and level of protection the KATA series offers, and since we do need to take care our "precious" One, I chose this to be the best bag out there for my needs, as well as it has plenty storage room for an entire RED or Photo camera set up, at times even both!

Sorry again about the S%#@ phone pic.

Yes same with the KATA 207, you can fit the entire 18" rods set up, and a 17" Mac book Pro, very well protected in the nicely padded back compartment.

But i agree with you as well Curran, the T 5258, is nice pack as well, but, sorry not as nice as the KATA 207, that is why I sold the Tamrac.

Portabrace makes camera backpacks that are very good. We had a custom one made for an Arri SR that we used in Antarctica.

Wow! Thanks everyone for pronto replies. I was going to buy the Kata Grizzly but was choking on the size and the $450 price tag, after looking carefully at everyone's suggestions (and busting out my Red and measuring a minimalists configuration), I went with Ketch's suggestion of the Kata HB-207. B&H offers a free trolley thing for free with the purchase. I've got an ambitious shoot this weekend that involves hiking/climbing to get into spot and this will be perfect! Just placed an order with two day shipping. THanks everyone!

Nice bags. Been debating Gibby's Cyberpack 8 for some time. Need airline carry on and even that is pushing it (yet surprisingly making it), but the Kata 207 and the tamrac 5588 certainly would not pass the 45" maximum carry-on size for most carriers.

Except Ketch said the 207 does meet the air clasification for carry on and he flies a lot.

I just got the Cyber pack 8 (Gibby's idea.

it fits everything needed to shoot handheld... plus both the RED bottom plate, the ET 19mm bottom plate the cradle.. two RED drives and the top handle...

I'm still trying to figure out how to pack it with the handle on... for now I have to take the top handle off...

But B&H states the 207 dimensions as: 15.3 x 11.8 x 25.2" - that adds up to 52.3" - 7.3" above the 45" maximum (some airlines are less). Am I mistaken with this?

No, you are not mistaken, but I have used for both, national and international flights and had no issues at all, I did as mentioned tucked off the harness for waist level, as otherwise looks like an hiking back pack for which they will, give you problems, even if that doesn't change the dimensions of the BP it self, but it makes look different.

All choices mentioned here are good ones and I have used just about all of them, and some, so Shawn, go with the one that you like both in design, price, and configurations possibilities.
