  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Backpack for Red?

We fly weekly with the kit here and we have fine tuned things by using the protective sleeves and pouches from Molly-B.com. The camera goes in its special shoulder bag and the accessories are in their individual bags within a Samsonite style cabin bag and the Pelican cases get checked in and then repacked at the other end.
Works well as a system. Disclaimer, I have an interest in this product.

I bought the Airport Addicted v 2.0 a couple of weeks ago, and have been in the mountains and the seaside with it. It is very versatile, both for carrying on your back - with adjustable straps just about everywhere - and very helpful when working out of the trunk of a car. Comes with weather protection, and a very useful 15" laptop case - that can be carried separately.

In my configuration it holds the RED incl. handle, 4-6 stills lenses, 2 large batteries, a Rycote mike, 7" LCD with double padding, cables, 4 CF-cards in extra case, cleaning fluid, 15" MBP with external CF reader, Shoulder Dovetail and the rain cover. All sits securely on the back. - And you can strap on a mono- or tripod.

All feels very secure, great attention to detail has been given. Feels like a bag that will last many years.

Not cheap, but worth every øre.

Can you share some pics of your setup?

My pleasure:

Under the Rycote you'd find the shoulder dovetail and 1-2 lenses.
This set-up is for getting the camera ready quickly. For more space / longer travel I'd remove the lens from the mount - and get space for one extra lens. (My standard travel lens package is now 10-20mm Sigma, 25/2.8 Zeiss, 50/1.4 Zeiss, 85/1.5 Zeiss, 200/3.5 Zeiss, Zeiss 2x extender Lensbaby with wide-angle and macro.)

In the flap you'd find a fully charged 15" Mac book pro with CF-card reader. For someone who was educated in film, I still find it mindboggling that I can shoot 35mm-equivalent footage, develop rushes, view rushes, do a one-light print and grade - all in the middle of nowhere (Or as pictured above in a world-heritage place), and carry it all on my back.

On a side-note: here I am using my old tripod, a Viten Vision 3. I also have a Sachtler 18-III, but that is just too heavy a beast when pretending to be on holiday while lugging a RED around :) I was pleasently surprized how well one actually manages to do decent tilts and pans with a tripod that is really made for lighter cameras. Bless Vinten.

Brilliant, thanks. :)

BTW- is that the "quick release" LCD mount that I see in there? I've been searching the threads trying to find it again, as I want to make one for myself. Having to screw on the LCD every time gets a little redundant ...

Bless them indeed - I've got a Vinten Vision 3 and it's my favourite light fluid head ever, just fantastic...

And yes, I've had my Red on it in extremis - it's far from ideal, but it is just about manageable! I far prefer an O'Connor 2060, but you wouldn't want to hiking with one of them!! ;-)

Cheers,
Dom.
