  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Backorder Update - November 8

Thanks Jarred,

Was using my Epic M for some B Roll shots for a feature today - looking through my bomb EVF, and just thinking - gosh - you know this is light years ahead of pretty much anything else going on right now.

Indeed - it can be hard to plan a shoot around a purchase - but thankfully (at least in LA) there are plenty of rental options - and producers and the like should know that quality does not come for free in the kit.

My Epic M was unquestionably the best purchase I've ever made.

Amen ! Jarred
That was really nice to read you. I tell you the truth, I was quite pissed off this days due to many things.
Scarlet delays, incredible more delays for european, I ordered an EPIC X with 30 000$ of accessories alone without any help, someone hung up on me I was asking something regarding the EPIC upgrade...I really feel that RED is slammed... and left alone with my numerous orders.

But damn, this is good to read such passion, such explanation and above all such sincerity in your post especially when you said the truth regarding the fact that you don't want to answer him. I'm not under the impression a Robot Company PR is behind this forum and I love RED for that. People are talking with heart
You know, I recognized myself for the EVF, I'm a guy who paid an EVF and received it 2 years ago ...

Thank you Jarred for this nice explanation.
It was a real pleasure to read such kind of sincerity and I don't care if I'm going to be frustrated to wait the only thing which is important for me, is I will be able to shoot some incredible things thanks to your cameras I would not be able to shoot if RED was not here.

When I was 9, I was shooting on a VHSC camera, when I handle a RED ONE, each day, I'm saying that I'm able to touch the dream I had when I was young, a dream I would have not be able to touch if your prices was not as low and your camera not as good as there are ...

Hope you will be able to ramp up as you would wish it
Cheers and sorry for the "fan-ish" thread

PS: please, just don't forget us in Europe... hehe ...

I ( again ) don't like Mark's response so I am not even going to reply to it.... but Ryan, I love your post.. Thanks.

You cut through all the bullshit and got right to the point... and you stated the biggest issue we set to change in the forthcoming months ahead.

For the first few years of the company we concentrated 100% of our efforts into making the best products out there.. products that we were told were "impossible to make" and accurate forecasts were secondary.. when you are inventing so many things all at the same time that have never been made before it is really hard to guess. Things got better.. but so did volume and customers.

Over the last 6 months we have brought on a strong team to help solve this.. and I know it is hard to see...but trust me, you look at where we are right now vs a year ago and your head would spin. Remember.. Not even 8 months year ago we were building our cameras and bits on a sound stage at our studio in hollywood.. our manufacturing facility did not exist.

Look at the EVF situation as an example. We battled that one for years. Total Clusterfuck. That EVF thread haunted us every night... thousands of customers wicked pissed off.. for good reason. Then we started selling Epic and the backorders compounded. black hole got deeper. we were actually making more and more.. but it didn't look like it from the outside. Customers lost trust no matter how many shipped out. Mass confusion. Then Scarlet starts shipping.. opportunity for the black hole to get deeper. But it didn't. Finally... come next week... we are 100% caught up.

We are knocking these things down one by one... it might be hard to see.. but it is happening. Just give us a couple more months :)

...Specially stage 3 which is probably the most generous act of customer appreciation that any company has ever done, in any market, in any history. Tell me one other company that is going to give you full value of what you paid for 3 years ago in exchange for a new product. So for you to compare the price of anything against what the net price of any of the early stages is, it just is not fair.

Most of us in stage 3 are well aware of how insanely generous it is, and extremely thankful. Honestly when I try to explain it to friends and family I can tell that they don't fully understand, its sort of incomprehensible for them. They nod their heads like they realize, and they seem to get the trade-in part, but not the 'full value' part and all the extra accessories.

Believe me, its such a good deal I've been worried for the last couple of years that you guys would come to your senses and one day it'd disappear from the list of stages. Thankfully it didn't!

Glad I helped cut through the bullshit...as long as that wasn't sarcasm...heh.

I can relate to you guys in the sense of I'm part owner of a post/vfx company and clients can't see the hours put in trying to deliver what we at delivering. Hell I direct primarily and often get pissed at my own company cause sometimes I just can't wrap my mind around the hold up.

That's where I'm at with the situation with red right now... Not at all unhappy with the results just the time and lack of understanding getting there. Scarlet will meet 90 percent of my directorial needs as well as most of my post companies needs. I just need it now ha, and I hope I'm not in a similar situation as with being an early adopter of the 17-50... Nearly 3 months wait I think it was and I ordered first day it was available.

Not hating Jared just hoping I cand get this little scalert lady in my hands by x-mas, like I presumed after the shipping on the 17th announcement.

Keep up the good work and please try to have my rep bea little more forth coming with updates... Ha. Really pumped to be owning an amazing camera instead of renting all the time, you guys have delivered something really special to the masses... Well starting to deliver something special to the masses... What... I can't be that easy on you guys

Ryan... No sarcasm at all. I'll make sure Santa is good to you.

And thanks everyone else for the notes and understanding, it really helps.

If I can ask for anything it's to give your Bombsquad rep a little slack right now, it's a bit insane for them :)

Beside of all I have said in my previous post, I only have one wish:

Just don't forget us in Europe for the Scarlet and all the other accessories :)

Cheers

And me too please. I need Santa to be good this year. Scarlet X bought Nov 3rd. Hopefully it's either here soon or in my stocking

Ain't a problem for me, very honored to be part of Red in this way.

I have had a pleasant experience with Red so far. Though it could be biased to the time that I started becoming a customer. I got my first Red product, 17-50 in September of this year, smooth transaction despite what I heard.

Now the Scarlet package, PL body and tons and tons of support gear for it. Bryan has been great with contact to me, and accommodated my payments. My support gear order should be shipped soon, and he answered my touch lcd question best he could. No word on my other items, but they are redmote, cage and brain, so the items I expect to be a little of a wait (not a big wait though, riiigghhhttt =] ).

I have no idea what the wait will be for me, I am far back in line, but it does seem to me that the orders are coming out and Red is and HAS made changes to speed it up. I have invested a very very nice car in this gear, and while I may not be getting the answers I want, Jarred (Red) has kept us up to date with the process. At this point, it is still too early for me to be upset and start the phone calls. I knew it would be a little wait, as it was with Panasonic. They didn't send Canada cameras until 2 and a bit months after they released! And they have much more staff to get that done quicker. So what Red is doing seems pretty good to me. Plus it is very true, not everyone posts on here. Look at the list made over in the Scarlet forum, there is no way that only 160 Scarlet's were ordered. I just can't see it, if it is true then better for us, but there are some pretty big gaps in numbers. People are getting cameras and using them, leaving us here thinking nothing has been delivered. Waiting sucks, and I am not patient, but production seems good so far for Red, time will tell if it gets better or worse.

Oh and Jarred, I do believe my parents mailed my Santa Wish List, seems you know the big guy so maybe you could put in a word for me too =]. Thanks for the updates, I look forward to more as they arise.

Jarred,

Thanks for the heartfelt and detailed explanation. It really does help.

I'm sorry if my posts pissed you off. That certainly wasn't the intent or spirit of either one. I'm also sorry if my post was taken as negative or "bullshit" or not being appreciative of what RED has done and is doing to improve the backorder situation. I think I stated my appreciation pretty clearly and acknowledged the challenges you guys are facing. I was simply expressing a concern, trying to understand why new items were shipping really quickly and other things that have been ordered some time ago were not, and to make a suggestion that might help folks get their camera package completed and to help plan their purchase decisions. Perhaps it was a suggestion made in ignorance. You've helped clear that up.

None of this changes how I feel about your products or company. I've been a loyal customer and hard core RED supporter since I ordered my first camera at NAB in 2007. And I think you know that.

Once again, I really appreciate everything you guys are doing.

With all due respect,

Mark

Jarred, thanks for these updates and your interaction on the forum. They really do help. I think in times of uncertainty like this, having a voice from Red talk straight with us is a very smart, trust-winning way to go. So thanks.

your reading this wrong... we are out of backorder in january. that means every order placed until yesterday.. We still are shipping them daily. January is worst case.
Sorry for my misinterpretation. Given that mine was September order I hope that we'll all be having a very happy Xmas :-)

Thanks Jarred, means a lot for ya to talk to Santa like that for me.... Didn't know you had ties like that? Red part of the mafia now...ha

Either way if Santa wants to make sure and include a dsmc side handle too I know some one who will get a whole lot of drinks on me when he decides to visit Nashville

Thanks again

Ryan... No sarcasm at all. I'll make sure Santa is good to you.

In the past, or at least I had that feeling, Red would send you an email update from time-to-time just to say "we haven't forgotten about you",
kind of thing. I think it is assumed that everyone knows you are crazy busy right now. Even so, when you're crazy busy you still have to tell
your significant other that you still "love her" from time to time.

Those emails in the past from the "front line" were always appreciated. The pictures posted on reduser with the employees outside and the ones
with the factory/inventory lines absolutely rock. That would be an ideal kind of email with attachment.
Love you guys.

these updates are very useful, I've had my eye on that side handle but I went ahead and ordered a Touch Screen(Dec.2) so I can operate my Scarlet when it comes in.

I can understand everyones frustration but Red is doing what they can to keep us happy. It's pretty awesome to see how far you guys have come since NAB, I was thinking about it and Red is in a totally different ball game within a matter of months! Glad to be here every step of the way, seeing the growth and new products is truly amazing. Everyday there's something new going on within the Reduser community. I've made new friends along the way plus learning more about my industry. pretty soon 4K will be in my hands and I will be full of happiness. Almost there just gotta put up a fight!

I'll give Tyler & Whitney (my reps) a break, they've done a great job thus far. It's just a matter of days to get all this stuff processed. Once the BO issue gets solved I will def be ordering more crap =)

cheers Jarred, your input is always welcomed!
