  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Backorder Update - November 8

I'd like to know how backordered the Ti PL Mount is? It wasn't backordered a week or so again and I just noticed this now.

Holy Crap. 2012 is shaping to be very exciting for me! I was called about being the DP for a feature starting Jan 20, another end of February, and then another in the Spring! My Scarlet might be very busy! Christmas Movie, Political Dramedy, and "We can't tell you yet, but it's a dark story" lol.

Now, I am guessing my scarlet won't be here before the end of January. That's cool. I really hope it's here in time for the other projects! Could be a life changing year for me. 3 features before summer! ... well, 2 at least. Maybe there will be another update soonish?

So I am sending good mental energies to all the red people, and not just the upper echelon, I am looking at you, assembly line worker #24. I love you.

Oh no! Now #23 is going to "forget" to pass my Scarlet along! I am sorry, #23!

I have the simple baseplate, but I want to use an Arri MFF-1 on 15mm rods with an Arri LMB-5 clip-on. I want to be able to QR out of a tripod and then drop the camera onto a hand held rig without pulling the MB or FF.

I've had to go with an an FF4 and 19mm rods coming off of the QR baseplate. To pull the camera, I've got to slide it off the dovetail. Much slower and heavier. If I use the QR, the rods and MB stay on the tripod... Kinda defeats the purpose of the QR system ;(

Thats why you buy the modular assaultplate. That way rods can stay with the baseplate along with your accessories. You can then QR from the Tripod QR-platform and to a handheld rig with the QR-platform without removing your MB follow focus etc from your LW-15 setup.

That's what Mark is saying...but unfortunatly Mark and many of us have been waiting for the modular assault plate for months now. It's been on back order since August.... :-/

Ha ha! That reminded me of the Bud Light "Real Men of Genius" ad series for some reason (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsC3ni7A88M)

Congrats on the the gigs Jeff!

Hahaha! I did some spoofs on those ads a while back for a medical industry client. Very funny stuff about Mr Center of the Universe Patient, Mrs Frequent Flyer Patient and Mrs Projectile Vomiting Patient.

Just landed a pilot for an unsigned TV pilot 1 hour ago. It is kind of a Discovery / TLC type show that we are making one or two episodes to then shop it around. I will shoot for awhile on my t2i and XHA1 until my Scarlet comes along. Then my rate goes up! But they know that.

To be clear, this is not a "I am so successful" thing. It is just about the leads Scarlet has opened, and I hope I know when it will arrive, lol. 2011 was not an easy year, so glad it's over!

Your rate is based on what camera you bring with you?

I believe this is to me?

Absolutely! bringing a $2,000 rig has less overhead than bringing a $25,000 rig. That said, I won't be offering people a "Choose Scarlet or t2i" business model. I will just be a scarlet shooter. I have a set day rate as a cam op, I have a set rental rate for the camera, get them both together to save a bit of money. I am not sure, though, what is questionable about all this?

Maybe it would have made more sense if I said "With Scarlet arriving, I am marketing myself to a higher level of productions models."

Trust me. You don't want to market yourself as just a Scarlet shooter or a DSLR shooter. Be the best shooter you can with whatever camera is around. Don't limit yourself to one technology because it says this guy isn't flexible, this can't improvise. What happens when something happens to your Scarlet and you can't get one short term?

Thanks for the advice. I think I am doing a bad job saying that I do just that. I have a rate as a cam op (meaning somone else dictates a certain camera be used) and then one as a cam op with a scarlet. Does that make more sense?

I have no experience with this but I suppose that makes sense. But I guess it also comes down to whether you want to market yourself as a cinematographer (regardless of equipment) or market your business as the equipment first and yourself as the operator of the equipment.

It has been a while since the last backorder update, I think we would all appreciate even a little insight heading into this new year. Thanks!

Yes I agree the last estimation for REDmote backorder catch up was 15th December.
