Hello everyone,

I have a Red One and an Epic, and many lenses, some of witch are not calibrated. The cameras are differently back focused and i am trying to find a way to adjust the back focus. Anyone experienced can give some advice?

What do you think of Red Focus?

Thank You

What are you people using to back-focus Epic? Anyone can share some experience about the Red Focus?

Hello Fred How much is the Luma Check?

The camera flange check tool will only check the flange depth on camera and only with PL mount. You need to do a lot more than that.
Setting the flange on the camera is the start.
After you do that you can use your camera as a very precise test tool for checking your lenses.
To make that easier and more precise I had a special sticker made for the R1 that will keep the reference marks on the camera and allow you to see how far off and which direction your lenses are.
Here is the video I made to illustrate how to do that:

BTW the stickers are free of charge for the asking.
We also made a flange test tool -Optimator

The unique features of the Optimator are the neutral mounting system that accepts PL, Panavision, Canon, Nikon adapter mounts (Optimator is the only device with this feature)
full frame coverage so you can evaluate allignment in 6 axis as opposed to one axis on all the other tools.

Very cool videos and products, Jacek!

How much of a concern is something like this for someone just purchasing a Scarlet / Epic / whatever? I am assuming its several thousand dollars for you product, which is a serious consideration, but very important if cameras are often not aligned right.

Thanks!

The Optimator and Red Focus both work well for adjusting the cameras back focus. Personally I prefer the Optimator, but Red Focus is a good option.

Greg, the Red option is certainly affordable. But what about a Canon mount? I am guessing a different evice is needed? or can you get "close enough" with just PL?

Don't assume Jeffrey:wink5:
Both versions of the Optimator- PRO and DeLuxe are priced similar or lower than the competition.
And that with the extra features like the neutral mounting( so multiple mount adapters can be purchased and used), multiple axis tests, direct sensor resolution readout etc..

Jacek can you please pm me some price info regarding the Optimator?

Hey Jeffrey thanks for the link.

I like a lot the Focusable Diascope, but the price is higher that Red Focus. It is very good from what I see. I wanted to know if there is anybody that can give some thoughts about red focus since the price is very attractive.

Erfort. I hear you. I am thinking that I will go with a diascope from the lens company I buy from, but I am not sure yet. The purchase is a few months away for me.
