Me and my programer friend Joakim Sandström have been digging in the Red SDK, to create an app making 3D cameras out of camera metadata.

Basically we wanted to create a panning, tilting, rolling, zooming, focusing camera based on the red camera gyrodata, sensor size, and lens data. Now after some digging we find the gyro data out of the current cameras not to be so clean. It could also be that we don't interpret it correctly / that we could use the motion sensor data to make cleaner rot data…
So there might still be room for improvements. But we also realised we did the app in a somewhat old openGL so it does not run proper on all Mac OSX versions. (But should run well on PC, or we have not found any bugs there yet)

Its all made with the latest SDK which include Komodo r3d´s so with a bit of luck Komodo has more accurate gyro output and then maybe this feature becomes of more interest, if so we might pick up the ball again and play some more with it.

Any ways, the free versions is available to download on the link below and if you find it useful then its also possible to purchase a .fbx export license on the same page.

Video below shows a little quick rough demo / tutorial / walk trough of AXIS v1.0. No matter accuracy its quite mesmerizing to sit and watch an old handheld cam move in the AXIS 3D openGL quake mode.

Link to monstro r3d testfile and exported fbx. Same clip as in the demo above. Dont look at picture quality etc shot 20:1 just to make it easy to download. And used a canon ef zoom just to show how AXIS grabs focus and fov etc per frame.
