today i wrote an app to take a sequence from Avid and via an EDL render out 1 DPX sequence of the whole thing with the DPX filename numbers matching the timecode of the sequence. It was cool. I have no idea what to do with it though.
I made the DPX sequence into a quicktime via the aja "dpx to qt converter" and compared that to a quicktime i made from the avid sequence and it was spot on.
so now i can cut in the avid at 15:1s and reconform the whole sequence to 4k DPX files and errr there you go.
Obviously no mixes or pictures in pictures/wipes /timewarps.
none of that nonsense!
but for just a straight cuts kind of movie/commercial/project it totally rocks!
tryout available on request...
what can i say? I was bored waiting for some VFX to come over...

Very nice. I will play it with it of you don't mind.

Fix it good and make a fortune selling it to Avid ;)

you need to have redline on your system and it is os x leopard only.
as it uses redline if your on build 20 it will use the new color science I guess.

i've only tried it doing the HD (1920x1080) dpx option (which worked fine)
if anyone else could have a go with the 2k and 4k options let me know if it works!
in the color/gamma bit if you pick camera RGB and pdlog it will do a camera rgb and pdlog985 with a -2 exposure compensation.
this follows autodesk's findings and i trust them!

as i say it was very quickly written......
you end up with 1 extra frame at the end of the whole sequence (just cos of the way edls work and i couldn't be bothered fixing it)
but it does seem to work in terms of edits matching and stuff.
just export your edl from avid with the red16 template and don't have any fancy schmancy things going on in your edit!

cheers dudes

like smokeyfuze? not quite...

like smokeyfuze? not quite...

hey james
smokeyfuze would make lots of folders of the INDIVIDUAL SHOTS that made up your sequence, with timecode matching the SOURCE timecode, so you could conform in the Smoke.
this thing just outputs the whole avid timeline, all in one go with timecodes matching the DESTINATION (ie timeline) timecode.
Don't know about specific ways of getting into avid. as long as the edl you produce has the 16 character file name in it and otherwise is a bog standard CMX edl it'll work.
it isn't a tool to conform stuff in smoke though, it's just a sequence generator!
i really don't know if it's any use or not I only did it cos i could....

made it work with final cut for simon!

made it work with final cut for simon!

hey all
i made a little bit of extra script to let the dpx sequence work with the edl made from final cut pro
so the workflow from final cut is
put proxies in final cut and edit away
export edl
run my program
sequence remade at HD DPX with pdlog 985 and -2 exposure.easy peasy.

just like it is from an avid edl!
if you want a DPX sequence of your cuts only sequence from avid or FCP i'm your man!!

i'll upload the finished thing with the xtra FCP bit next week.
for now Si jut rest easy and know it has been done.....

added FCP edl compatibility

added FCP edl compatibility

hello all
my EDL to DPX sequence thing now works with FCP edl's as well as AVID ones.
you still get one extra dpx file at the end of every edl (just delete it for now!)

I did an edit in Final cut (used the proxies) and then exported an edl
no audio just a basic cmx edl and got this:

So I took that and parsed it into a format my thing was happy with and added a checkbox to the gui which says "fcp edl"
tick that box if it is!
I hope the above FCP EDL is stndard cos i've based my "sort it out" code on that....
if the edl is from an avid it works without ticking the box.

i've just made 2k and 4k 16x9 sequences in my testing and it all seems to work ok.

remember, the DPX filename has the DESTINATION timecode.

cheers

where's jamfuze hiding?

where's jamfuze hiding?

in development hell!
have seen it do r3d to dnx36 mxf straight to the avidmedia/mxf/1 folder(with a nice preview/thumbnail view showing the grade done in an rsx file)
several issues with it past that point regarding metadata in the mxf.
the guys will get there i'm sure!
mine still works though..... :-)
