I have 19 sequences I need to round trip from avid to resolve and back for color. Its a 2 to 3 camera shoot depending the sequence. Upon bringing our colorful beautiful seq into Avid from resolve we get no playback, PMM error saying insufficient media.

the cameras in question are a red that was tethered to an avid and recorded 175x 10 bit directly to MXFs on our server through avid capture tool

4k black magic shooting prores in quad hd (this was colored in 1080 in resolve and just shot wide for reframing when needed)

and a very POS sony overhead lipstick camera that is used sparingly when needed

so upon encountering this problem we noticed turning off the track with the BM footage seems to make it play within avid.

Resolve tech support had me try a workflow test going with the 4k BM footage from resolve to avid this morning with a simple fake edit, worked fine
They also had me round trip this morning from avid to resolve and back and it worked fine.

The only difference is my edits are very basic, no transitions, no multiple formats or multiple tracks, just single track basic edit. so its not a apples to apples test but the problem is it worked fine for me just now and i have no idea what the bug is with the real sequences. im not too hurried yet deadline wise but i cant even seem to isolate if the bug is in Avid or resolve...i have standard support with avid with a few different IDs so ill try them along with resolve who im on hold with currently but i have no idea whats actually wrong.

resolve im running on 12.3.1 and avid mc on 8.4 all on supported certified bays (z400HPs on the avids and new rMBP on resolve)

ps now noticing when i match frame on my real sequence that was round tripped and is giving me the PMM error with the black magic the preview viewer has the right gamma curve (colored) while the timeline looks low contrast logish like the original (this is also different than my result with my basic workflow test, in that the colors are right in my timeline and i used same settings and same resolve project even to make it, so no settings changes at all, just much more basic sequence)....im still on the phone with support untangling this but if anyone has encountered this sort of a problem please throw me a life line? the weird part is my real sequence is only 90 seconds long anyway, so its not like im doing some long form thing encountering a problem, even my real sequences are relatively basic. thanks!!! (ps no idea if its avids or resolves bug yet)

ps supposedly the wolfcrow workflow is out of date...you no longer need to select AAF export seperately from the preset that does the roundtrip. also i was told not to put the new aaf/dnx outputs from resolve into the same aaf folder as as the aaf made in avid (something wolfcrow said the opposite about)

im redoing it out now to a unique output folder and trying again...hoping for the best (though i did it incorrectly earlier on my successful tests this morning before talking to resolve following the outdated workflow and that time it functioned correctly following the outdated stuff, not sure why my real sequences disagreed)..

regardless im hoping now that i been schooled on the new workflow it will work, and if not, i discovered some sort of bug. will update shortly

Still not working... Sending files to resolve tech support for help in the bug. When I match frame it has the right gamma on the track that doesn't work in timeline... Not sure the bug yet but I'm going to patch my avid higher to see if it helps

Seems to be caused by first transitions in our sequences. Sequences without them round trip fine! Weird huh?
