  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

AVID DNxHD / DNxHR + RED DSMC2

Great news, DNX-HR in MXF wrapper format please, MXF avoids all the inconsistencies of quicktime.

It also avoids the buggy and antiquated windows implementation of quicktime.

Super

I'm loving these new Weapons

Can't wait to start working with them and the update at NAB.

So glad I sold my RR-X those days of transcoding will be long gone, just a matter of time. And having to explain to producers why they need to pay extra for a Rocket rental.

Very cool!

Win for us all.

You'll need to spend that money on more Redmags

Yes, PLEASE give an option to choose to record either MXF Op Atom or Quicktime wrapped. Using QT wrapped media can be a RPITA in Media Composer. But there will of course be times when a Quicktime is exactly what people want.

Thanks so much!

Exactly, MXF OPatom is the way to go for DNxHD, otherwise it's just the same as ProRes quicktimes really, which works exactly the same in Avid since ProRes is supported within Avid on both platforms.

Did we ever discover which DSMC2 bodies would shoot which resolutions of DNxHD & DNxHR? I didnt see it in the thread.

If I was a betting man I'd say put your money around the time of NAB 2016 for more info.

We are very proud to welcome Avid DNX to the DSMC2 family. DNxHR and DNxHD will be enabled in camera @ NAB.

I would suspect a similar breakdown on DSMC2 w/ ProRes for DNxHD/HR.

I cannot wait for this feature..as I am sure every AE/DIT will be super stoked!

If only there was a rock solid timecode lock between sound and camera, MXFs together with a DIT naming the footage files (metadata that shows up as names in the edit), it would make a huge difference in workflow speed. If that were possible, you could have a rough edit of a scene from the real editor made within an hour of shooting a scene. Just imagine shooting the first half of a day, break for lunch and when returning to continue you will know if the first half of the day works in the edit or not. I don't know how many times I've been in when I've been in need of a simple cut-in to solve an edit and that would be easy to do after lunch if the team is at the same location and know that they need to do it.

This is the plan for the next film.. Also i think this feature will get more editors hired during pre production and budgeted to be on set, or close to it as they should

Is it possible to change the metadata of the clip captured (annotations) during the recording process through wifi? The same way the Sonosax SX-4R+ sound recorder does it.
