I think we have all been pretty patient as the Komodo was released about 2 years ago. When exactly can we expect the Autofocus to be officially released? Will it have tracking? Face/ and eye recognition? Will it be the exact same as it was 2 years ago? I’m just wondering if we will ever actually get a real AF system in camera as was promised more than 2 years ago?

I'll be watching this one. . .

No, they will focus on their next camera now, the one after Raptor XL, so all issues that Komodo, Raptor and Raptor XL have will be part of the cameras forever.

Maybe Red named the feature AF Beta as a name, not realizing it means it's not finished? I dunno, but I've been making suggestions for face tracking features through the Control app if it can't be done in-camera, so far to deaf ears.

Or maybe someone could just make such a feature? I mean, if someone could make a more stable wireless video that's just wireless video instead of all the settings like the control app and then make the iPhone use its built-in face tracking systems, maybe we could get such a thing out of Beta ourselves since we're in the wasteland of unfinished tech.

I would have thought the alliance with Canon would have resulted in some RF tech love. Canon would also benefit from this, the better RF lens work with Komodo the more they sell... Red has gone silent as of late and I hope its for good reason. Komodo does need a few more tweaks and polish before going off into the wild alone. I wonder sometimes if Red is large enough to R&D, produce, promote, support all at once?

I am moderately disappointed with the general pessimistic attitude, but I guess I'll save that for off the air.

RED releases firmware updates regularly and more will be coming. Pretty much every manufacturer does this now. Sometimes a month, sometimes half a year, sometimes a year. Nearly none give you a heads up or have an interactivity leading up to such things. RED's stated pretty clearly that it's going to be less forward about it's future plans, updates, and other things. I'm actually a little surprised when we get teases at all really in this particular market. They are adopting more of the traditional presence with a moderate amount of rock and roll still it seems.

We do know various things are being worked on in the AF arena from interviews and such. Improvements and likely additional features are going to be tied to that.

I do wish there was more community outreach perhaps to satiate a month passing, Komodo's last firmware update was March. It's April.

AF is working, I have lots of ideas on how to improve it. I'm certain RED's engineers do as well.

All I need now is for RED to put back the remote trigger?run stop function. Oh and for the love of all that is good, Please give me some sort of button or soft button to program. Like I said Komodo is pretty much close to what I need or expect it to be.

I doubt at any point Komodo's AF will work anywhere near as good as Canon and Sony's systems.

Putting it all together, with the latest patent issues, why? would Red have to struggle so much with autofocus if/when they trade IP with Canon? AF working flawless on Red, sells more RF lens, No?
