  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Audio and /i Pins Upgrade Program

Jarred,

If you have a camera reservation number after September when the new audio boards are being installed in the earlier reservation numbers, will that audio board be included with your camera, as would the new pl mount, and I pin upgrade? Hypothetically speaking, what if your reservation number is so far back, that when you start taking cameras in for the sensor upgrade, will that be installed in the new shipping cameras or will it be the extra (x amount) of dollars to have the new sensor in your camera?

I have had an early version of the new audio board in my camera for testing for a few weeks and I am really happy with the improvements. I have used it on real world jobs, I mean people really made commercials with it and it sounds great. I am glad I can talk about it now, it is really impressive. Really clean phantom power now my favorite mic sounds as good as if I did use an MM1, which was my phantom power pre-amp choice previously.

Does this render the MM1 useless for the RED camera once the new boards are installed, or can it still be used to get even better sound?

Thanks.

Kudos.

Wow.

Amazed.

Blown.

Grateful.

Or as my wife put it "This is too good to be true."

This is RED!

Does this make the RED One the first camera that not only records images that can be projected onto the big screen, but also sound? (Just a marketing thought...)

correct ( If i am reading your question correctly )

Shipping cameras will ship with the upgrades already installed.. most likely a week or two earlier than the upgrade program begins.

Well done guys, once again!!!
Congratulations...and Im still waiting

It surely has to be another kick in the guts for the other big (though not as big as before) players in the market, who couldn't possibly bring themselves to offer anything like this level of service. They must be writhing in agony. Christ I love it. Take a moment to appreciate this monster you've created.

Hey Jarred. My number (#2818) is coming up sometime later this August. If I would use my 30 days to complete everything, it seems like my order would be completed just within the time frame when you start to ship cameras with the upgrade already implemented. Could you confirm this?

Best wishes,

Calle

Slick. Hope you can pull it off

That´s all very cool. I´ve got No. 2560, wired the money yesterday, so I assume I will get my cam before the program starts. Hopefully, by the time of our turn, there will be that European service center installed already.

Jarred Land? Erik Birger?

Jarred Land? Erik Birger?

Jarred and Erik, earlier I posted this under the lens test section. And it seems to be lost there. So again, please reply on the following questions:

:mail1:

I think this deserves its own thread.

Several people have asked both Erik and Jarred/RED about the implications of the new i Pin update for third party mounts, especially the Birger mount. And so far no responses.

I would like to know what the i Pins program changes physically on the RED? Will it make the process of changing mounts more difficult/easier? I would very much appreciate if someone at RED could answer this a s p. My number is soon coming up. Since there are so many wonderful renderings of upcoming cameras and accessories, it would be really nice if RED also could post an illustration of how the i Pins update is implemented.

I gather from what you Erik wrote not long ago concerning i-cable data that there are several ways to make the Birger mount send aperture info to the RED camera. Will REDs new i Pins-program change or add anything to that?

Both upgrades are no charge to you guys.. we are even paying for the shipping :)

It might be a good time when you send your camera in to get our normal (paid) overhaul/checkup as well though then, since many of you guys at that time are going to be near the end of your 1 year warranty and it would be good to find out if anything is wrong before the warranty expires.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I love this ride!

Very nice from RED.

Hello,

Excellent news! Very cool that you guys are replacing the original audio boards for free in addition to the new cables.

Just to be absolutely clear, I am using the RED Nikon mount. I need to put the PL mount back on when I am contacted to return the camera, correct?

Sorry for the daft question. Just want to make absolutely sure everything is to your requirements.

Once again, thank you very much for the upgrade.

Best!

i'm wondering the same thing...

unfortunately Shawn.. we can only give away so much...

I don't know about you guys: The next thing you know, you're gonna start thinking about making a profit. Now what kind of business is that? (Maybe one that's still there next time you need them?).

I actually sometimes wonder if you guys will ever turn a profit on the Red Ones. Of course, if you raise your prices, we will scream like wounded animals.

Have fun, and thanks so much for taking such good care of us.

Dave
