  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Audio and /i Pins Upgrade Program

We are preparing for the upgrade for the i/pin upgrade program, and this will unfortunately require sending the camera back to RED for installation.

The good news is.. we have taking this opportunity to also redesign the Audio board in parallel, resulting in audio performance that is vastly, vastly, superior. We have decided to swap all existing camera audio boards at no cost during the /i pin installation ( which is also no charge to you. )

This process will start during the last week of September, in order of serial number, and we are targeting a 48 hour turnaround, and for in-person drop-ins we anticipate a 3 hour turnaround. We will give you as much notice as possible when your number comes up.

I hope everyone is happy with these changes.. the audio performance in the production samples we have received are off the charts, and of course the /i pins are something alot of you guys have been waiting for for some time.

Jarred,

Awesome news. And the audio board upgrade is sweet! Thanks!

Awhile back we discussed adding LDS pin compatibility along with i/pin. Any progress on that? Can you add a second pin in the LDS position so someone could use either Cooke or Arri data systems?

M

hey Mark.. its still on the list , but if how long it took the /i pins to get into the camera is any indication on how long it may take to get the Arri side of things done, I wouldn't plan on seeing it show up anytime soon...

I know that's not exactly what you wanted to here, but unfortunately it is the reality as of right now :(

You guys have been...uh busy. I understand.

Can't blame a guy for asking.

That doesn't mean I will forget ;)

Thanks for everything else you are doing.

Cheers,

M

Jarred,

What happens if my camera is out on a long job when my number comes up? Will I be able to send it back in at a time that suits me, or would we be able to agree an alternative time to send it back in?

Also, does the paid-for check-up include sticking a new Red logo on the front of the camera? Mine's disappeared

We will work around your schedule.. but the turnaround time may increase trying to fit you in the line.

We will stick the logo on for you n/c tune up or no tune up, .. as long as you cover the material cost :)

any chance this bodes well for scarlet audio as well?

Fantastic!
Having a RED One is really like having a child and watching it's abilities grow month after month. :)

I don't have any kids but that sounds like a rather accurate statement.

I'm pretty amazed by the company's policies. RED's high level of customer support is going start drawing as much attention as the technology they're developing. Very pleased to see this investment get stronger.

Brian

Both upgrades are no charge to you guys.. we are even paying for the shipping :)

It might be a good time when you send your camera in to get our normal (paid) overhaul/checkup as well though then, since many of you guys at that time are going to be near the end of your 1 year warranty and it would be good to find out if anything is wrong before the warranty expires.

thats nice, i still got a bug on my sensor and my cf card never worked.

Awesome news! You guys seriously rock!

You guys really are awesome!

One question: since the Birger mount doesn't use the /i-cable for metadata, and I don't foresee using any other lenses besides Canon EOS, can I ship the camera to you without reinstalling the PL mount and just get the new audio board? Or do all service calls require reverting back to factory condition?

It would just be a bummer if something went wrong the second time I had to install the Birger mount.

I'm glad the audio is being looked at. really with the red have world class video it should have world class audio too and I'd love to see the functions with that expanded. syncing audio is a pain in the rear. I'd rather have it on camera with an external recorder only for backup purposes

Will the new audio board eliminate the need for these adapter cables with the resistors in them we've all been using and allow for straight throughs?

I do not have a RED One, yet I read this board religiously. The amazing technology and industrial design drew me to the forum. The incredible business-case-study-in the making that IS RED Digital Cinema Inc. and it's management keeps me here.

I'd love to have a Scarlet at some point, but I have no real justifcation for it other than the "cool toy" factor.

Nonetheless, the sort of behavior that RED is exhibting in this sort of service/upgrade must be applauded. It's nothing sort of amazing. Should I ever be in a position to consder owning a RED product (RedRay?), the reputation RED has built for actions such as this would cause me to not hesitate a moment before plunking down my cash.

Just an observation from the sidelines.

Tell all your friends...

Jim

!!!!!!!!!!! As much as I like the images coming out of this camera, the audio problems have kept me from the sort of giddy overflow we see on these boards. The Red has been a great camera for B-roll. Now it can get in the whole game.

This is fantastic news that will bring a lot of EFP people on board.

I'll tell everybody. Thanks a million. This is the kind of corporate responsibility that will create a lot of loyalty. We've all been jerked around by soul-less corporate giants for so long, this is a real breath of fresh air. I hope Red makes a VAST amount of money, so it can become a model that is copied by others.
