  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Audio and /i Pins Upgrade Program

This is great news! If we pay for the check up do we get another year of warranty? Is this possible if we pay more?

we do not offer an extended warranty.

That's great news on both counts - i-pin and audio board - much appreciated RED! You guys seriously rock...

Reinstall the PL... we need the camera like you received it from us :)

How about users of the Red Nikon mount (since that's a Red product)? I'm guessing that would still need to come off since it blocks the cable?

How much would that cost?

I would assume you would do top to bottom QA after the updated installs, because an erroneously performed install could damage something. If something was damaged, it would be impossible to know whether it occurred in shipment or handling at Red. So effectively the overhaul/checkup should be performed automatically.

Great question Shawn. Of course after-audio board installation the camera will go through the normal QA process.. but just to do with parts affected by the installation and general functionality.

The full tuneup includes things like cleaning out the fans/ports, replacing the filters, resetting the backfocus, sensor, full port functionality, non-audio/i-pin board-level testing etc... a pretty extensive multi-hour test.

So what is the cost of that? Perhaps you could have a special one-time lower cost associated with having it done simultaneously with the upgrade?

We are preparing for the upgrade for the i/pin upgrade program, and this will unfortunately require sending the camera back to RED for installation.

The good news is.. we have taking this opportunity to also redesign the Audio board in parallel, resulting in audio performance that is vastly, vastly, superior. We have decided to swap all existing camera audio boards at no cost during the /i pin installation ( which is also no charge to you. )

This process will start during the last week of September, in order of serial number, and we are targeting a 48 hour turnaround, and for in-person drop-ins we anticipate a 3 hour turnaround. We will give you as much notice as possible when your number comes up.

I hope everyone is happy with these changes.. the audio performance in the production samples we have received are off the charts, and of course the /i pins are something alot of you guys have been waiting for for some time.

what company does stuff like this???

awesome. just awesome.

I didnt ask for it for free. Just let us know what it costs and what comes with it, thanks.

Amazing, Jarred. You guys are classy.
I'm a customer for life!

aloha,

Keith

WTF!!! I feel like letting go a string of explicit expletives now!!!
All cuz i'm friggin' elated!!!!
Thanks Jarred!!!!

Jarred, thank you very much listening and acting in an unheard of manner in this industry. I recently ordered a Sound Devices MM-1 as a stop gap measure for what I need in the field now, but I really appreciated what you guys are doing.

Andrew

The MM-1 bolted to the side-arm is great tool for on-camera use. Great pre-amp, cut-off and limiter with solid pots.
