  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We have built an incredibly efficient factory in Irvine, California and over time learned how to make EPICs in quantity, lowered our assembly costs, found better suppliers and fully paid off our NRE. When we assembled the 1st EPIC camera in Stage 6 at RED Studios Hollywood it took our team 12 hours. It took two more days to de-bug. Today we can assemble an EPIC in 13 minutes and 95+% need no re-work after diagnostics and testing. It is a testament to our manufacturing team and supply chain teams.

Since our costs are now significantly lower we are re-pricing our cameras as of now.

For those of you that purchased a new Scarlet or EPIC brain on or after Oct. 1st 2012, the next time you order accessories from RED you will receive a discount to use towards that purchase. $1000 for Scarlet and $4000 for EPIC. Talk to your Bomb Squad representative when you are ready to use this discount.

Now… here is the new pricing:

5K EPIC-X Brain- $19,000

5K EPIC-X Monochrome Brain- $20,000

5K EPIC-M Brain- $24,000

5K/4K Scarlet Brain- $7,950

4.5K RED ONE M-X Battle Tested- $4000 (includes CF or SSD recording module). The RED ONE is End of Life. Battle tested is all that will be available from here on out.

Due to high anticipated volumes, plan on extended response and processing times.

Dragon sensor upgrade is not included for any EPIC system purchased at the new pricing going forward. It will be a $6K upgrade.

Pricing is being updated on www.red.com as I post this.

Thank you for being reasonable. We broke even exactly over what rentals would have cost.

realistically if this was ever gonna happen now is not the time you're gonna hear about it. They probably won't disclose that info until Dragon is ready to be released. also I think that Scarlet will not be becoming Epics. they will probably be upgraded to Dragon sensor at less Frame rates and other weaknesses compared to Epics upgraded to dragon sensors.

I hope, but I doubt it considering it technically is 5k already. But I am hoping to hear some news about any potential Scarlet upgrades as a result of these price changes. Whether it's to Epic or Dragon :)

Nah but I did call mine to confirm the discount is only on NEW Scarlets. Which was totally expected, and not disappointing.

(but still that would have put "deal of the lifetime" over the top, in an insane mind-blowing way / I totally would have rolled that discount into AKS or my incoming rocket right away.)
 
I was so happy to give my R1 up for stage 3.. I may be buying it back :-) Good thing I was lazy and kept all my R1 stuff!

well in a way..the savings one got from the BT SCARLETS almost equals the credit if one bought new...boom...it all equals out....

7. RETURNS – Buyers must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (“RMA”) prior to the return of any product. Cameras may only be returned for refund within ten (10) days of original delivery by Red at shipping address specified by Buyer and with less than 25 hours of run time and pass Red Inbound Quality Control (“IQC”). Accessories, except Digital Media and Batteries, may be returned for refund within ten (10) days of original delivery by Red at shipping address specified by Buyer and pass Red IQC.

From the Red FAQ. Hopefully since it hasn't even shipped, they will just adjust your order to the new price so you don't have to do an RMA.
 
Great news for anyone looking for a powerful cinema camera right now. The R1 at $4K is very cool. That should open the doors for a lot of people. For the price of a really good DSLR you get a RED 4K camera.

For anyone in the market for a Scarlet or Epic right now, there's almost no negative aspects of this lowered price. The following link is a post I put up before Scarlet details were first announced. It was to prepare those who were ready to jump on board, but perhaps needed a little guidance. I think the same applies here. These prices are phenomenal. As long as you still take into account everything that goes along with it. For many, they have already done this and the lowered price just made it that much easier to afford. For others, this is still going to be a huge purchase, so maybe they will find this useful. Here is the link.
