  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Built specifically for RED's new EPIC.

A work of art. This is the ONLY thing as cool as the EPIC.

My two favorite companies - a dream come true for me.

Somebody is gonna need a few dozen more CNC machines ... counting the seconds to rock this gear -

Congrats to everyone involved on this - really stunning.

quite cool, but why is that rig, almost all 3D rigs, so f*** hell expensive. I mean, the price is two epics but not even half the technical development complexity of a digital 5k cam.......

ohh my goodness the price! could someone break it down a little why this costs over 60 grand? i know nothing of how this thing works

Economics, they know the demand is much smaller than say for the Epic camera it's self. It has to be priced to make a profit after R&D, machining etc. Say ET thinks they could only sell 1500 (just an example) units ever, they need to make it worth while. My 2 cents.

Most of the people I know working on 3D are working on fairly large projects, and comparitive to the rig prices I've seen lately, this price really isn't that bad. 3D is going to come down in price in the future, but I'd say if you can't afford it (and I can't), you probably don't need it all the time YET.

@ Jim

Are both Brains connectable to the one Recording unit to obtain a muxed 3D image?

The rig looks great by the way. Cant wait to shoot on it next year!

A thing of beauty.

Definitely a thing of beauty...

As most here know I've been field testing equipment prototypes and shipping versions for ET for several years now. When ET designs and fabricates something, its done right.

You can expect to see me and my alliance partners using an ET Atom with Red cameras very soon...first with Epic-M, followed by Epic X, and then Scarlet.

I was fortunate enough co-produce the world's first Red 3D production (a short) on September 1, 2007, using my Red 0008 and Billy Summers Red 0013 at Paradise FX in Van Nuys. Lucas Wilson edited that first Red 3D production on the spot on a Scratch system. I remember that day well...

I was on the vanguard of the development and rollout of Red One, and yes, for those who are wondering, I'm really enjoying that same opportunity with Epic-M, Epic-X, and Scarlet.

Fast forward to the present. A huge thanks to Red and ET for enabling truly mobile 3D production - in 5k, 4k, and 3k. As most of you here know, I'm known for a very mobile style of production - hand held, on sticks, jibs, POV, etc. You can expect to see some mind-blowing 3D (and 2D) footage come from our crews.

Fun times ahead guys...

:) - who's talking about "earthquake cam" footage? Those who don't know how to smoothly shoot mobile footage can make an audience want to puke even in 2D. But those of us who do know how make it an immersive and exhilarating experience for the audience - whether its in 2D or 3D.

If the best some people here can do is simply take pot shots at other forum members posts, maybe they should re-think their approach to the learning curve.

Just sayin'...

beautiful, it looks like something from a future ghostbusters. does *can it keep my tea warm?

the day that a lot of questions with a "no " answer will be "Ok, yes, no problem".
State of Art, congrats ET & RED.

A long long time ago....
In a place far far away from California...
We did our first 3D test... we need to use a crane to move the rig...
it was about 80Kg (175lbs)!!!

Thanks Joey and everyone @ ET! You did it!
