ATLAS ORION Lens Test. Ursa Mini Pro

By jambred

45mm and 65mm. Shot on Ursa mini Pro G1. Shot Braw Q0. Colour graded in Davinci 16. Grain added in post.

OK guys, im trying to decide between the 50mm and the 65mm (as I have seen reports that the 40mm is softer).
But I cannot seem to find any comparison between the 50mm and the 65mm. Both work on a full frame camera right? Which one is the sharpest? Size looks about the same to me. Minimum focus distance is also important, can anybody shed a light on this as well?

Thanks a lot!

Joe,

Please come visit me in Burbank, I’ll give you a hands on experience.

What camera body and lenses do you want tested ?

I could do a quick toss up maybe later today if 40/50/65 for you for reference.

Put together a fun little edit with Paige Lorentzen along side my buddy Sam Fregonese!! I filmed on the RED gemini with mainly the 65mm atlas anamorphic, while he filmed on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K camera with the 40mm lens! I'll be doing a review soon between the two!

This link of stills is meant for people who are asking questions such as:

"How do the 40/50/65 look at a T2 vs a T2.8?"
"How does the LF Extender work with the 40/50/65?"
"How do the 40/50/65 cover an LF/Vistavision/36x24mm sensor?"

Hopefully this helps to directly address some of Joe Cage's interests from earlier in the thread.

Clearly this is not an exhaustive effort, and some minor errors were made on the slate - but this is a very quick way to address some immediate concerns. The images are broken into different groups - straight from camera (in this case a Sony A7S) with RAW and JPEG variants, and with and without the LF extender. One could extrapolate how much coverage at 2.66:1, 2.40:1, 2.39:1 etc extracted from the larger imaging area on their own, and these aren't graded - they are direct from the camera... More to come later as I have time...

Here's the 40,50 and 65 at f2 and f2.8 with LF Extender with a little color correction added to kind of get rid of that yellowish color cast.

Edit:

Here's a 2.39:1 crop of the original file
