  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Atlas Lens Co. - Orion Series 2X Anamorphic Prime Lenses

Hypothetically speaking, if you were to get these lenses one at at time, what order would you go for? 40mm first no?

I'd personally go 65. 40 is always wide - you'd have more flexibility with a 65 and be able to physically back away from the subject if you needed wider.

In order of what I'd get individually - 65, 100, 40, 80, 32, 50.

Keep in mind you can add PL doubler to the 40, 65, 100 set and get a massive range of focal lengths in 3 lenses.

It's also unclear how much distortion will be on the 32 so that would be my reasoning for going with the 40 before 32.

Wow this sold me...was this for sure shot on GEMINI?

Wow! This fantastic work Daniel! Really impressive. I’d love to hear more about how you pulled this off.

I must be missing something because I can't see anything Anamorphic in the videos when I go full screen. looking at the videos with the letus ana device compared to these lenses..to me is night and day.

Thank you Jim. I've been friends with Dan Kanes for quite a number of years now, and when This project came up I thought it was the perfect opportunity to give these lenses a whirl.
It was a 2 day shoot in a stage in Studio City, CA. The concept was in place and we adapted the shots to the stage we were filming in. We broke down the song into a few Steadicam shots with some thought out transitions. I felt like the Orions gave this a very special look. They have a distinct characteristic, fairly "vintage" look to them, and the mechanics are as modern as modern can be. I was really pleased with the process and the result

If anyone missed us at Cinegear 2018, and you’re in the LA area right now, please do stop by the Tiffen open house in Beautiful Downtown Burbank...

From 10:30am to 3:30pm !

I have been sleeping on these and missed them until I happened to stumble upon Dan at a cinegear.

I just wanted to add a giant thumbs up, they really impressed. Great look and very pretty. I’m locked into spherical for the next 12montha or I’d have been reaching for the check book.

For the price they really do impress. They seem very well made too. Congrats on a great lens family Dan.
