Atlas Lens Co. - Orion Series 2X Anamorphic Prime Lenses

Hey Dan,

You mentioned in the newsletter that you guys have made the Orions smaller and lighter, do you have any updated tech specs you could share?

Thx!

Los Angeles -- April 9th, 2018

Atlas Lens Co. is excited to unveil the next development in our Orion Series 2x Ratio Anamorphic Prime lenses. Our expanded lineup now includes 32mm T2, 50mm T2, and 80mm T2 Orion Series lenses - slated for shipping by Q2 2019. We believe the addition of these focal lengths represents an exciting expansion of the family and a welcome new addition to the cinematographic landscape.

Last Year's announcement of our 40mm, 65mm, and 100mm T2 Anamorphic Prime lenses during NAB 2017 was the culmination of years of research, development, and examination of what we as cinematographers have discovered about lenses and what we want make available for a new generation of image makers. This year we sought to open up the horizon with a 32mm focal length (equivalent to a 16mm horizontal field of view) and the highly sought after 50mm and 80mm focal lengths enhancing your options for focal lengths that are just at home creating portraiture as they are carrying a vista - with the ability to pack more story and excitement into every frame.

The availability of newer digital sensors from major camera manufacturers which are capable of Full Height anamorphic formats, we think it is only fitting that we make available a greater range of choices for the discerning cinematographer. The Red Gemini with its Full Height Anamorphic capability, and the Monstro 8K with its ability to fit anamorphic images into classic 4 perf size and well beyond make Cinemascope Anamorphic Photography really sing.

The news of this expanded series of focal lengths (which we affectionately call the "B" Set,) comes hot on the heels of the mass production and shipping of our 40mm, 65mm, and 100mm which many of you have been waiting for patiently - and which will begin delivering to customers in June 2018.

To Celebrate the expansion of the Orion Series primes, we have decided to open a very special limited time offer From April 9th, 2018 to June 9th, 2018 for existing customers who have preordered Single "A" Set lenses and "A" Set packages who would like to make a reservation for one or more of the new lenses.

If you're not yet a customer, you may still take advantage of the limited time Pre-June 9th 2018 Customer Loyalty discount by placing a deposit for one or more of the "A" Set lenses, and you qualify for the Special "B" Set
Preorder Discount Window.

If you only want one or more lenses out of the 32 / 50 / 80 "B" Set - don't worry. From now until June 9th, 2018 - you still qualify for a special preorder discount if you make the deposit within this window.

Hey Ryan, these look great, I’ll be coming by the booth to have a look for sure. A couple questions, from what I could gather from the site the A set is $7995 plus $16000 for a total of $23995. The B set looks to be another $7995 deposit, will it be the same $16000 when they ship? So total $47990 for all 6 lenses? What will the total be after June 9th?

Looking forward to seeing them!

Phil.

Stoked for these Dan and Forrest. Ill be getting my deposit in for the B set before the 9th. excited for my A set to ship. Can I just pick my set up at cinegear? that would be real special. Then I can do some shooting in LA while I'm there.

do you know when the first batches will be coming out? I can't wait for mine super pumped!!!

Dan,
This is great news for anamorphic shooters. Congrats!
So if I am not a customer yet, can I still jump bord and get the pre-order benefit for A-Set? Or are you talking about Set B?

32mm is really wide. Would it cover Alexa open gate as well?

Looking forward to see more footages. And maybe some test shots for each lens (40, 65, 100) might help too.

Thanks,
Thai

Dan,
Congrats on the choice of the 32mm. Wise when combined with the 40mm as part of the set. Your whole set has been well thought out.
Looking forward to seeing your results.

Is there any footage out there that is less off the cuff? Love to see some lit interiors on a dolly.

Nick

Dan I'm sure things are nuts at NAB now, and congrats on bringing these to life.

It's been mentioned by others, but I would love to see an option for a 135mm or 180mm - if there is a way to squeeze in 1 or 2 more lenses to the "b set" longer focal lengths would be amazing!

Just snag Duclos's 1.5 or 2x telephoto extensions. They work super well. Used them on my feature with cooke anamorphics and it got used all the time. 100 became 200. It was perfect.

Fantastic ideas. Let's see what happens :)

Hi Phil - hope you managed to make it over to the booth to scope them out.

If ordered before June 9th here is the breakdown on a 6 lens set:

$7,995 deposit for A Set, $16,000 Balance = $23,995
$7,995 deposit for B Set, $14,000 Balance = $21,995

combined deposit amount = $15,990
Combined balance amount = $30,000
Combined Total = $45,990

One major benefit of this is total balance is not due until allocated to ship. So, the balance for the B set would be due early next year when they are ready to ship, in the meantime you could still be inline for and receive your A set early.
Combined total if you miss the June 9th special = $48,990

Hi Thai,

Special discounts on A set lenses are closed - however if you combine any A Lens with a B Lens (or a Set) you unlock a Deeper discount on your B lens, thus expanding your discount possibilities :)

The 32mm (and all of our lenses) are designed for 4 Perf Anamorphic format - which is ~24.89mm x 18.66mm - however we do have illumination outside of the designed imaging spec, and the 32mm is no exception to this - it will cover Arri (or Red Gemini) Anamorphic modes - and you should get strong "Full Open Gate" performance, but there is no guarantee of "no vignetting whatsoever" outside of our designed imaging area? Know what I mean ? Come check us out at Cinegear, and as our time opens up and we are not working round the clock to deliver, we will indeed be generating more content (hell - we will do that any way - we are sitting on some good footie now - just need to take a breather.)

Confusing pricing...
Price to just buy the b set before June 9th?
Price after? thx.
