At one with my Scarlet...TV series pilot shoot "THE SNAP FACTORY" by Luke Launer

Hey Reduser dudes and dudettes,

It was great to meet some of you in person at NAB last week! I had a great time demoing Colour at the Atomos booth and enjoyed the show more than last year....so many awesome toys! (especially lights). It was a long week for me, talking every day I ended up losing my voice....after my LOOOOONG flight back home to Australia I finally got off the plane and drove straight to a shoot, no shower no nothing! hehe.....anyway, sleep is for the dead and I love making movies. Here are some stills from the last two days....really feeling at one with the MX. I'll be writing more about the shoot with lighting setups and color examples later at my blog. PEACE!

Matt

Thanks to Luke Launer for getting me on board, I love shooting with passionate directors.

Awesome work - Some of these images look as good as if they were taking with a 5DM3 or D800. Great light work!

Thanks for the feedback guys :) These are actual frame grabs from the footage, no DSLR here :) I did use LED's and tungsten fresnels for this shoot, and Nikkor primes were my glass of choice. I'll be sharing more on a detailed blog post soon. Thanks again!

And Andrey, that music video you are asking about still needs to be approved before I can show it, but I'll let you know.

Great stuff Matthew as always! To me, your work is inspiring. You work with a mobile footprint (Scarlet, Nikkor Primes, Tungsten/LED units), and create big, dramatic images with them. Your dedication to grading in particular is taking your work to fantastic heights.

Your focus on craft and technique has my attention.

Looking forward to what's next.

Hey Nick, Thanks for the kind words :) I love the idea of mobility but the more I try to achieve what I (and the amazing directors I'm working with) see in my head, the more light I feel I need! Hehe.... I'm going to try out the cheapest of cheap led "fresnels" on eBay soon and might be able to replace the tungsten units with them.

As for what's next, I'm very excited to say that I'm shooting a feature in Australia which is an explosive action Ninja film and I've been told that Sam Neill is in it! Kind of a big deal for my early career :)

Thanks again for your comments Nick!

Cheers Phil :) Would you believe that I graded these from 10-bit prores straight from the samurai? It was a little more difficult than grading from the R3Ds but with good exposure you can push those. MOVs around pretty far.
