I just read the article in the february American Cinematographer on Coraline, and I was fascinated with Henry Selick's views on using 3D creatively. For example, changing the interocular distance to give the 'real world' a flat look, mirroring the lead characters outlook on life. I plan to see it this friday here in los angeles, so I'll wait to pass judgement, but it seems we might be getting past the gimmicky aspect of 3D and on to a valuable creative tool.

any ideas?

i agree. i once saw the nightmare before christmas in 3d and it was a different experience. the film was not shot for 3d, so it just gave the entire thing this beautiful depth. once thats done tastefully with a 'normal' film, we should at least see a lot more 3d capable theaters around

great film. as long as you keep in mind it is a kids movie (although many parts seem much closer to an acid trip), you should not be disappointed. Anyone interested in 3D should absolutely see this in theaters.

i will say that there were a few points during the film that i really missed 2d. something just felt wrong
