ARRI Mattebox Group Buy! Again!

Hello Matt,

Oh Yes- This group buy is on like Donky Kong!

Please contact Abel Cine Tech for details.

I hope to respond to the LMB-5 vs. MMB-1 question soon.

Be Well,

Eric

REDusers interested in the Arri MB20-II group buy can contact any Sales Rep. at any of the Abel Cine Tech offices (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles). They all have details on the deal that is in place.

Guys, it really is a nice deal. You'll save something like $1000 on the kit.

Oops, sorry Mitch... Steve did it last time and I never thought to ask if others were doing it this time..

Steve's gonna kill me.

All good, we're just trying to make it easier for everybody.

Excuse my ignorance guys, but why would you pay 4.5 times more for an Arri brand mattebox over a RedRock micro. Your education is appreciated.

I have a RedRock micro but i think i'm going to save some money for an ARRI. The RedRock is ok, but there are so many times you wish you had an Arri, mostly when you're in a big rush during production and you realize you're wasting time fitting that stupid rubber ring around your lens that will also sometimes get in the way when you'll be trying to reach the iris gear with your fingers ... or when it touches with the follow focus and does not reach shorter lenses and you realize you have to unmount the ff and put the re-mount it behind ... dunno if what i'm saying makes sense (i'm italian) but in a simpler way i could say RedRock is very good for the money but it's not the best you can work with.

No deadline currently set. We'll try to give notice before it is discontinued but the idea is to try and get as many people in on the deal as possible to make this worthwhile for all involved. If the MB20-II Group Buy #2 is a success then perhaps an FF-4 Group Buy #2 and other group Buys can come down the pike.

Ok here's the info on the group buy:

Basic Module with Shade: $760
3 Stage Module $1.140.00
138mm Rear Bellows Adaptor $480.00
Swing Away Module $970.00
Arri console for Lightweight Support $320.00
3 MB-20 Combo Trays 4x5 & 5.65x5.65 $720.00
ARRI Side Flag $460.00
Top/Bottom Flag $INCLUDED no charge (normal: $221.00)
ARRI 19mm Adaptor $INCLUDED no charge (Normal: $311.00)
ARRI 138mm Filter Ring 138-114mm $INCLUDED no charge (Normal: $311.00)

Total cost for full Kit: $4,850.00

The discount seems to be running around $1,000 off.

Now if you are thinking about an MB-28 that's cool. Hopefully a lot of you went by the ARRI booth and saw the differences, what is has, and what it does NOT have (It is NOT the same as the MB-20 only larger.. It's missing some features to save on weight and cost).

Know this, while I do not have EXACT numbers, we're guessing the MB-28 will be around $2,000 more.

This package is based on what the majority of RED owners have been getting over the last year or so.

Hope this helps

Jay
For those of you wondering, this group buy is a little better than the last one due to the difference in exchange rates this time around.

Why only ONE side flag? is that a typo?

Thanks for pointing that out. It is a typo -- it's one PAIR of side flags.

Dear Mitch,

ARRI's MMB-1 - suitable for all RED-primes - max. wide-angle focal length ?

Thanks for Info

brgds
Max

I have not physically tested the MMB-1 on the RPPs yet (soon!), but the MMB-1 covers an UltraPrime down to 14mm, so I think you're more than safe even when 5K rolls around.

I realize that for most people looking at a list of part numbers this can be very confusing. The question most often asked is “but what does it look like?” Well- here it is. This is exactly what someone who goes for the MB-20 II group buy will receive (not including the 19mm steel rods.)

To help decipher the ARRI parts list, here's effectively what you'd be getting:

A swingaway mattebox that holds three independently-rotating trays that can each hold a 5.65x5.65 or a 4x5.65 filter. The rear bellows back houses a tray for an additional 138mm round filter. The bellows ends in a 114mm ring that an go directly onto a lens such as the 18-50 or use screw-in rings to reduce to other lens sizes. Or the bellows can be removed for a perfect fit directly onto the RED 18-85 zoom. The mattebox also has adjustable side flags and a top flag. And lastly it comes with mounting for both lightweight 15mm rods and 19mm studio rods (a 15mm studio adapter is also available).

Any questions please feel free to ask. This is a great deal for a great mattebox, and it won't last forever.
