Until we are waiting for RED announcement at October 30, 2009,

Thanks for postin"

not that it matters a darn to the quality of the image produced by the camera, but that viewfinder is fugly.

That EVF = WTF?

Oh well, I guess someone has to keep CRT manufacturers in business. Seriously, what's up with that? Makes me rethink my opinion of the RED EVF being "big".

Looks a little short for a CRT. Maybe one of the new gen LCOS with HBLED illumination or maybe an OLED display.

looks like Mole Richardson's design dept. did the VF...

Looks like Mr. Kreines Kinetta camera if you squint a little... :wink5:

I have a friend going to work for Arri soon, I hope i can swing out to Jersey and test it sometime next year.

worst VF ever!
why make it a block?

best VF ever...

Glad to see they realised that a long VF is painfull with most primes and a MB... unless of course you want to keep your osteopath kids in a really good school...

good picture.. good design.. but not pretty

I can live with that!

PS look at the relaxed head positions..

What ever happened to that camera? Wikipedia still calls it a "RED ONE competitor" despite the fact that nothing has been heard about it for three or four years... Maybe they stopped the project because there was no way it could really compete...

I was kidding about the CRT comment, in case some of you didn't catch that. I agree that the RED EVF can often be problematic with certain configurations because of it's length or overall size. IMO, this ARRI prototype doesn't look any better. Yes, it seems to solve the depth problem, but the thing is still HUGE. I can see it's girth being an issue in some configurations.

Can't say I'm wild about its overall design or the look of those vents on there. Knowing ARRI, it will perform well, be very robust and cost as much as a black market kidney.

I'm 110% sure this EVF interface won't be compatible with the RED. It's using a form of LEMO connector as well, however that means nothing. Aside from the signal most likely being incompatible, it looks like a larger connector.

What is the max FPS on these babies?

the pictures were the EVF looks really HUGE are taken with what we in the industry like to call a wide angle lens.

I like the size. I thought they were bigger. I agree about the EVF looking bluky, but we have to wait and see how good they are to judge whether they are good or not. With all that size they may be fantastic... 1080p? We'll see.

Without the idea of Kinetta - probably no realisation of RED.

Kinetta is one of the conceptual ancestors to RED.
Died to a multitude of reasons, it becomming less neccesarry by the realisation of RED being only one of them.

Great idea.
Fantastic concept.
Mad Scientist.

Met liquidity realities, I guess.

That is one of JJ's forces.
He does have some cash to put some weight behind his ideas.

Good for us.

And I think Mr Kreines has been mentioned by Jim as one of those in the early reference group for RED, but I may well be mistaken. Have been before...

The RED EVF is a joke.

The ARRI? well thats how a Real EVF should be made. Its all about image Quality, Accuracy and Ergonomics.

The RED 1 is By far a Better Camera, but on ergonomics is really missing the race.

Cool that you know all this!!!

Art thou psychic by any chance...

AFAIK these are unreleased cameras and viewfinders - a bit like making a final judgenemnt on Epic-X...

sorta... almost... but not really... but somehow anyway...
