  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ARRI Alexa digital camera prototype

One of the fun parts with the Arri - I think - is how close it looks to the R1 both size-wise and generally.

Yup. I DO get that the built in shoulderpad is a very smart move, and I would have loved for R1 to have that. That is smart.

As arethe full size connectors. But we've been grumping over those mini-whatever from day one, so that's no surprise...

But, still.
Looks kinda familiar. More so than the D-21.

So I guess they have seen some of the same... challenges... or whatever...

Cool that you know all this!!!

Art thou psychic by any chance...

AFAIK these are unreleased cameras and viewfinders - a bit like making a final judgenemnt on Epic-X...

sorta... almost... but not really... but somehow anyway...

:emote_couch:

It wouldn't be reduser.net if someone wasn't comparing and critiquing a product that doesn't exist yet.

LOL!

Admittedly, I did that myself way back when...
Ordering a non-existent cam from a hoax company just to join the fun.

they had a EVF at IBC to look through. I don't know how much it will change but it was pretty good.

I would love a small EVF. However if it can't be good and small I rather have it good and fat (long is just too difficult).

The Arri EVF uses the same technique as the Red EVF to display a colour image. The difference is it is refreshed at a higher rate so there is both less flickering and the image can be bigger to your eye. I also heard something about it being designed to combat cold. Maybe that is why it is so fat!

I'm hopeful for a new Red VF that is smaller and better and very PRO.

regards

Michael

sorry but the EVF is so fat, taht you cant see something with the left eye.
but the placement of the connectors (EVF for example) look good, the overall stability seems good.

the OVF version will be a hit here in germany.
but i cant imagine that privates will buy one of these.

and i still hope for an epic-combo which is really cinestyle.
i personaly think an OVF is not worth 20 k usd...for me. the advantages doesnt justify the price, but there will always be people who doesnt care.

Next generation EVF

Next generation EVF

The RED EVF is a joke

I respect your opinion, but the RED-EVF happens to be the highest image quality electronic EVF currently available.

You won't be disappointed.

the pictures were the EVF looks really HUGE are taken with what we in the industry like to call a wide angle lens.

And the guy who has his faced pressed up against it must have a really tiny head, right?

He has the smallest head in germany!

this is often forgotten... I had the misfortune of looking through an old F900 colour VF the other day and it all came flooding back...

That is what we want to hear!

Please make the diopter adjustment lockable!

Is the refresh rate and image size increased?

kind regards

I like the fact that they designed an option with an optical viewfinder. Ergonomics looks promising too. Although conservative, the speed is what I think most people need to make films. Its nice to have the high speed option, but lets be honest, mostly what you need is 24fps~30fps. Arri has been on this industry for ages, I'm anxious to know what they can do.

I agree that the RED EVF is kind of long and makes you operate in an awkward position, but as Jim states: They didn't know what they were doing back then! So hopefully this, and most of the R1 issues will be lessons learned on the new product line. Looking forward to it!

Ignoring the higher Arri mileage.

I'm scared of RED 10 years from now...

I fully respect Arri and it's history. I love the SR3 and 435. Solid. Reliable. I'm not quite the most rabid RED fanboy either.

But I guess I have to be the one to say it. 3K @ 60fps at that pricepoint. What'rre they doing? I know it has a whole slew of other features. Arent the higher up models using a square sensor? Nice for anamorphic shooting. I'm sure it will be built like a tank and the OVF will please the old guard but come on. Specs/Price...sorry.

i think this is important step for all of us.

arii means something to film world. those models are showing us that arri is definitely switching to digital.
this means, that no one will complain about DIGITAL CINEMA after arri steps in. no more arguments for flm vs digital. it is clear message for cinematographers - arri - which is known for its somehow conservative approach is also seeing digital future.
this is big step forward comparing to D20, D21 episodes. looking from announcements, it looks to me that cameras are build to last.
so - in short period of time even most conservative DOPs will jump to digital. and they will see and judge for themselves what is more suitable for their work. and it will be clear that there is competition in digital world. and competition is good, as we all know. at least you can more objectively see the differences when comparing two cameras which are both digital. not just simulations of two different approaches (film vs digital).

i think this is really just the begining.

Filip,

totally agree.

That's at another way I wanted to say here but somebody made a bad joke, I reacted and tread was closed soon after that.

Also people should not forget that ARRI is coming from the country (Bayern, Deutschland) that make BMW cars (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG)

which are successfully competing the cars made by any competition from Japan, Korea, Italy, France, US, UK, Sweden, etc, ...

All it's about a sort or matter of "TECHNICAL 'CULTURE' or a TECHNICAL STANDARD" that you could find there for more then a century or even longer...

So when they decide to seriously "jump" on something, they will try to get out of it with their sort of perfection.

Somebody would simply call that manners and values as a GERMAN DOING THINGS or a product that is labeled MADE IN GERMANY.

And RED is of course right now aware of that "fact" pretty strong (or they took in a serious consideration that "fact").

It's a high mobility at RED just because of that "GERMANS ARE COMING" or that ARRI "jumped" seriously in digital arena.

I'm sure we could read about that "between the lines" of upcoming RED October 30 announcement.

Also not to forget that ARRI D-21 is "already winner" at the upcoming CML evaluation digital camera test "according" to Geoff Boyle FBKS.
