  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Are under $250 LCD's working with Scarlet hdmi ?

I use a SmallHD DP4, it's great, and has usb to power the hdmi transmitter stick that was mentioned before.

Paramon , I don't see that menu option.
I set hdmi resolution to 720 60 and 1080 60 , they both stop the 'unsupported resolution' message on the LCD, but only display black or blue and black alternating flash.
I do get a momentary glimpse of picture sometimes when I toggle the aspect ratio button on the LCD, then it gets distorted and goes black again.
I tried an HDMI active repeater to buffer the possibly weak signal, doesn't help.
This Ligos 5" LCD works fine on the computer output, as well as my Canon DSLR.
My 1280 resolution LCD works well, but is bigger and I'd like to use the Ligos one because it's almost the same form factor as the RED touchscreen.

I am wondering who is out of HDMI spec here ? Either RED is sending an off spec HDMI, or the LCD is off spec in what it can accept.
Red should be using an Agilent hdmi verification tester to double check the output, I would hope.
This is all tested with the 3.3.12 firmware on Scarlet.
Les Dittert.

It's about the 5" Ilogos lcd, same look and spec as the VL5 Ikan.I don't know which one is rebranded but Ilogos and Ikan share several same models.

I can confirm the issue with the Ikan. It does not work with the Scarlet, I bought it and hooked it up and the exact same things happened. I tried every setting in camera and on the monitor, as well as variations between them... nothing worked and it just flashed blue and black indicating it not being able to lock sync...

Wasted my time and money buying this, luckly I bought it from B&H so I'll be returning it right away at the store. The VL5 WILL NOT work with a RED scarlet. Works with computer, t2i, and everything else, except for the damn scarlet. Oh well.

I would suggest you check a couple monitors from ikan such as the VL5. it is a 5 in. monitor w HDMI and it supports input from 480 to 1080p with a max resolution 800x480... however if you want a top notch consider the Ikan D series monitors with 1280x800 ips panel, the price is a bit more but its more of a solid pro panel and for a bit extra you can get waveform vectorscope RGB parade and peaking http://goo.gl/wRrHu Hope it helps.

honestly its a surprise that the v5600 is compatible with the red scarlet considering its dated firmware in the monitor--i would only recommend it ( & its updated brethren VK5 http://ikancorp.com/productdetail.php?id=457) as a cheap and workable solution. the vk5 also has a higher resolution and some added features like peaking and false color which the v5600 does not have.

thats unfortunate to hear and a surprise as well. I'm wondering if your VL5 model has an outdated firmware (v1.0). there have been some sync locking issues with our monitors previously, generally occuring with HDMI only (SDI works like a charm) when the monitor and camera separate. at this point they both need to be turned off and back on. I should have some more complete data by the end of the day if not the end of the week.

SDI from red epic, scarlet, and ONE, on the other hand, has been working beautifully with our SDI monitors--especially the higher end D7w and D5w http://goo.gl/IIymw

As I just said the VL5 DOES NOT WORK with the scarlet. I bought it brand new, tried everything, and was a no go. Had to return it the next day.

Also the Ikan ( or rebrands ) seem to be made cheap.
Mine had it's HDMI socket come loose, from very slight torque on the cable. Open it up, and it turns out the HDMI connector has little stress reliever tabs that were not soldered to the PC board, so all the torque was taken by the tiny data pins to the pc board !

I actually managed to solder it all back. Beware.

also: reading the spec sheet for a monitor means nothing, the signals from the Scarlet are a little different than what these Chinese companies test with. It's the luck of the draw.
The 1280 rez one I got works OK, just no super bright.
