I was wondering, RED RAW material needs a lot of disc space. How do you archive your material? What do you archive and what get's thrown away? What hardware do you use?

I basically keep on buying harddrives!
My last 3 projects had about 25 terabyte

Each terabyte of data from camera goes to 1xLTO 5, and 2x 'practical' copies to cheap Samsung HD103-SJ 1TB drives.

Tape goes in a safe, one drive stays on a shelf for hotswapping into the edit suite, one drive goes off-site.

When LTO 5 gets a little cheaper I'll probably make dual LTO copies too. Right now this runs to an affordable £25/hr at normal data rates.

Do you guys use compression when backing up to LTO-5?

Compression is hardware handled but unlikely to be of benefit on already compressed files like R3D's.

Dual tapes usually, triple if super important - kept in different location.
