Is it possible to manually set aspect ratio on the RED Epic. i.e. If I get an EF-S Canon 18mm-200mm, can I make its APS-C frame to match the 5K sensor? Has anyone done this type of thing & r the results alright? Thanks

The Epic & Scarlet are essentially APS-C sized sensors.
EF-S Lenses cover the entire 5K frame with no problems.
I use both the Canon 10-22 EF-S and the Sigma 18-35 lenses (also an EF-S lens) all the time with no issues on coverage

You can use the frame guide within the camera and Redcine-X to use what aspect ratio and resolution you'd like. Likely shooting in 4K will just yield what you after though.

thanks for info. I thought Full Frame meant something bigger than APS-C. Red website sez the Epic is Full frame at 5k. I'm surprised to hear that.

:smiley:Excuse my ignorance... Does this mean if I use an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM that the image will be cropped making the zoom longer or can I adjust the frame to fit completely within the 5k sensor?

You're getting confused with the Full Frame spec. In this case RED is referring to using the entire 5K sensor when mentioning full frame.

They don't mean "full frame" as in 5D full frame, they mean "full frame" as in using the entire sensor (and not a portion of it as what happens when you shoot say 16:9). Does that make sense?

The EPIC is NOT, NOT under any circumstances a FULL FRAME sensor like the 5D. NO.

The sensor is SLIGHTLY bigger than Super 35.

If you are used to using the 70-200 on a 5D, then yes...you will notice a "crop" (of 1.3x). If you've been using it on a 7D, then it will feel very similar (though actually you'll get a slightly wider FOV at 5K, as the Epic has a slightly larger sensor than a 7D).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info. It does help. It's all tricky stuff.
