  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Appreciation...

This post is solely to remind everyone how much we appreciate the support.

We are fully RED because of the suggestions, comments and patience of our customers and posters here. The interaction with everyone has made RED a better company.

I'd start with people like David Mullen, who has donated his time to the cause of helping young and interested enthusiasts understand just about anything they can think of. Imagine having a trained professional that will answer each of your questions... wow. Only here. I can't thank David enough...

The shape of our program has changed because of you. The time you have spent here has made a huge difference in what we are doing. I hope it is apparent that we are here and listening, sometimes to 4am. We are aware that this interaction is not normal in any industry... and we like it.

We are always late, but worth the wait. Only a dedicated group of friends would put up with this. We count you as just that.

I hope many of you can make NAB... for selfish reasons. I'd just like to meet you and shake your hand. You have helped shape what RED is...

Thanks again... it is a long road ahead.

Jim

I have been reading the forms from 2007 on and never got a chance to work with RED till this year with Ryan E Walters on Shawns # 27 and it was an amazing experience that I was waiting 4 years for. I will be there with my wife, we both will shake your hand! I hope also place an order for Scarlet! So I can finally join the dream and live it to.

While Kelly and I are expanding our family by breeding future BOMB SQUAD reps, we are already part of such a bigger family on both REDUSER and at RED. I have been lucky enough to work with Jim for over 11 years now. I wish you guys got more than glimpses on forums and at events of how brilliant, dedicated, passionate, and loyal of a person he truly is. And it filters down throughout the entire company at RED. All of the names already mentioned in this thread - plus many, many more behind the scenes - are amazing to work with. And we all know that without this community (of both RED customers and supporters), we'd be nothing.

So...thank you.

I just want to thank Jim and everyone at Red for making this transition into new territory, digital cinema, both exciting and personal.

Rarely is there such open access to the top employees of a manufacturer, and such back-and-forth dialogue, and I'm all for openness, for the sharing of information, knowledge, and experience, the free exchange of ideas... I think it makes us all stronger.

Before RED I had never been on a Forum! I had NO IDEA how to behave (As some people on here will remember... Ouch!). It's been an incredible ride.
I remember that rant well, but whatever you do Jay, don't disown it. Anyone who saw it knows your frustration at the time.

I expect the folks at RED know what frustration feels like and I'll bet they look back on that rant with a certain simpatico.

And besides, (ahem) who among us have been perfect posters? Even Jim has had his moments... that is, some of his late night threads have mysteriously disappeared.

Going out to Lake Forest to pick up the first batch of cameras truly felt like a special day. One of the first things Jim did was put up his cell phone number on a giant projector and pleaded anyone in the room to call him day or night if there was something wrong with the camera or there was something right with the camera. He wanted to know. In the afternoon Jared whipped out the blow torch and started branding a few select pelican cases. Towards the end of the day we all went around the room and told our story as to how we came about acquiring our serial number. Finally at the very end they lined up camera carts for each person there and started laying out the parts and accessories we ordred. I don't believe anyone had even paid them yet. They weren't prepared to take our money. The day was completely unorganized but it felt organic. RED had never given anyone a camera before, they were making it up as they went along. That night stuart emailed everyone new firmware, the first version of the manual, and an early build of Red Alert. This continued for a while for the next several builds until eventually RED built the support page and started hosting the builds themselves. Ah, history... glad to have been part of it.

Yeah Brent, you and Kelly have a real problem on your hands. How to explain to your children why they have so many aunts and uncles...

Jim,

I was there for Frederic's step onto the small podium in front of the original RED Tent.... what a ride - Thank you. I've gotten to work with Ted, Graeme, Stuart, Deanan, Rob, Brent, Kelly and of course you, Jarred and several others of RED... along with Michael Cioni and so many others. Mammoth HD is privileged to have been apart of this adventure and look forward to continuing.

At the launch - remember watching half the audience (from the leading cameras companies....) all stuffing their badges into their pockets.

We jumped onto RED that day and have never let go.... see you at NAB.

I believe the dialogue here, user feedback, and even the speculation, has spurred camera manufacturers in general to be more innovative and responsive. The forum has been good for the industry. I'm not a red fan boy, but I am a reduser fan boy :).

And yes, I also think Mr. Mullen has been very generous with his insight, information and experience!

I think Red is a good success story so congratulaions to all involved, whether Red employees or not, but especially to those from whose comments I have learnt many new things: Mike Most, David Mullen, Jeff Kilgroe, JBeale, Deanen, Stuart English, Daniel Browning the bonafide engineer, Dan Hudgins, Bruce, Meryem Esroz, Mark Pederson, Lucas and many others.

Don't know where Finner and Cineform guys are? Are they still posting here?

Sincerely,

Joofa

Upon finding out about REDuser.net, I knew I had nowhere near the money needed for a RED One, I decided to learn any and everything I could learn about what made RED, as a company, tick, as well as what their cameras were all about (down to every last detail).

Just over three years later, I finally got to visit RED Hollywood Studios and I would like to thank Jim and Jarred for giving time out of their day to show me their cool stuff. (and thanks to "Joel" the cool security dude...even though he scared me almost to death during a little "run-in" at RED Day 2010) haha!

@Jarred, I envy you. Not because you get to play with the coolest toys on the planet, but because you get to see business decisions made by one of the smartest businessman on a daily basis.

@Jim, As an entrepreneur, you inspire me greatly Jim...

@Ketch, thanks for taking a gamble on me and allowing me the chance to collaborate side by side...now, on a daily basis. Funny how I think our first communication was when I was an idiot and sent a PM where I corrected you on some grammar...hoping you'd appreciate the instruction as I would have. We've come a long way. ;)

Thanks, RED team and Jim for creating this community. I'm far from an industry insider and never will be, so I often don't know who's who, other than by the quality of input they give. But whenever I get curious and look up the resumes of any number of people who post here, I am absolutely amazed and humbled. The only more amazing thing to me will be to shoot RAW motion with a Scarlet Fixed for under $10K.

To the Parents to be...

To the Parents to be...

Great Thread... Makes me smile!

Brent and Kelly.. I swear on all that's holy, I did NOT want kids.. NO NO NO. My wife was patient and kind, but it all came down to her saying: "You want me? Then we're having a kid."

Guys.. I was SO VERY WRONG. I'm not going to give you "the lecture" parents always give. I will simply say anyone that tries to tell you "Hey Brent, kiss your free time goodbye, or Kelly, your life is over!"... Just look at them and smile. Your lives are just beginning. You're going to know a new form of love, pride, happiness, and sheer joy that you never experienced. You are going to live your lives all over again, from the moment you were born, and every single day after.

You're going to experience your own slice of heaven, and it will have a name: Your son.

I'm excited for both of you.

Jay

Yeah, a good thing thing REDuser wasn't my first forum. I joined the Internet in Jan 2007 and got into videography later that April. I was such a jerk at the last forum (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) that I got banned and told "go somewhere else that is more your type like REDuser, because you will enjoy it more too". I was like REDuser? (????!?????!!!????) What's that? (?!?!?!?!?!?)

Hehe. Well, even though that wasn't very nice of someone to say about RU.net, at least I dabbled into the things that the community were talking about.

Knowing I had nowhere near the money needed for a RED One, I decided to learn any and everything I could learn about what made RED, as a company, tick, as well as what their cameras were all about (down to every last detail).

It was a calculated Gamble Joseph... and it has been great so far... Italy and the rest of the World awaits us ;)

Wow! Joseph. How's your Italian? Lucky you.

I would buy a RED hat that had the red logo and said "We are always late, but worth the wait" underneath.

I've said before that your creation allowed the realization of dreams otherwise not possible. We had an amazing run with #97 and I look forward to a version of the Epic (hopefully before the next deployment ;) ) to continue the charge. You all were always unexpectdly quick to provide excellent support, and deserve untold kudos.

I continue to greatly enjoy visiting the fourms to see what the community is up to and accomplishing, it has definitely been a wild ride, and the promise of what is still to come never lets down.

:cheers2:

This thread got me thinking about what would have happened if Jim & the rest of the company that is RED didn't step in to push the industry forward several years ago. It's interesting to wonder about where it'd be. I do think eventually Sony would have gone 4k, but probably not for another 5 years and at an even higher price.

It's hard to figure out if RED was revolutionary or evolutionary, but I lean towards revolutionary. That term is thrown around a lot and very overused. But I'm not sure any other company would EVER get to what RED is doing now in the way that it is doing it. If anything, their business approach (about as open-source as a product-based company can be) is revolutionary and I hope they influence other companies. Yes, they drive me crazy at times with delays or a strange way of disseminating information...but I wouldn't change their ways at all if it meant closing down the open lines of communication. I still think it's unbelievable that Jim posts here as much as he does and that everyone from RED actively SEEKS information from us. That is very cool.

Thanks to all at Red and keep up the great work!

Kevin

Thanks

Thanks

I remember when Red started with a splash page about 4k. I believed right away. I went on to different forums and most were loling and saying yah right, an affordable 4k camera.

To them, i say you suck
and to Red i say: Thank you very much for giving us inspiration and amazing tools to look forward to. Thanks for shaping the industry and raising the bar, if it wasn't for companies like you, most would be still chasing companies for those features you offer, and those companies would be cheap enough to add one feature a year if we're lucky. Go Red all the way.
