Hey all,

I take a fair share of still shots with my DSMC, and for the most part find myself start processing these stills with the REDCINE-X Beta and IPP2.

I've found that you can't apply 3D LUT's to IPP2 stills from DRAGON.
I'm not sure if this is intentional, or just a bug, or if it also extends to stills from DSMC2.

I first encountered it when IPP2 first came out in the one off build, but did discover a fairly usable workaround:
1. Open up a clip (length doesn't matter) and apply your 3D LUT to it.
2. Save a Look Preset based on the clip.
3. Apply the Look Preset to your Still and the 3D LUT will apply.

The method doesn't seem to work with saving a Look Preset on a still, as the LUT information just gets wiped when you apply it to another still.

Anybody else encounter this?

I'm not sure what the problem is. There's nothing in the SDK or RC-X betas for IPP2 that prohibits the use of 3D LUTs and older clips. Can you make sure you're using the latest IPP2 beta, load up some 3D LUTs into the new "LUT Manager" and apply them to your clips?

I've had the same problem with the current IPP2 beta and submitted a ticket. After some back and forth with the red tech and he had the same issue i believe it went to the engineers for further analysis.

Is it possible, that by "current IPP2 beta" you are referring to Beta 3, and not Beta 4. Beta 4 was a minor update that was released on Sept. 8th (REDCINE-X PRO 50.43516). Beta 4 includes several fixes to the Stills Workspace Creative 3D LUT implementation.

In Beta 4, in the Stills Workspace, I just successfully applied Creative 3D LUTs to clips shot on DRAGON sensors. I was also able to save the Creative 3D LUT to a Look Preset and successfully apply it to other stills.

Please let us know if you are still seeing this in Beta 4.

It looks like Beta 4 fixed the problem.

I was able to apply it to older stills that had been IPP2 converted in the One-Off version, and newer stills that were converted to IPP2 in Beta 4.

Only thing I noticed is if you use the "Meta" Preset on a Still, and then try to apply a 3D LUT, you aren't able to apply them anymore. But that also seems to effect footage too, and can easily be fixed via the workaround, or just using the Meta option on the IPP2 Panels instead of the Meta preset. Could be because the Meta preset tries to revert things to as it was shot (IPP1)?

Thanks for the fix, even if it did come out a few days before I posted this, hopefully anybody who is still having problems will know how to fix it now.

sorry for the delay, yes, with beta4 on a helium sensor its working perfectly. thanks again.
cheers

As a related side note, I noticed recently that when you "open" an r3d file in Adobe Photoshop 2018, an IPP2 module pops up to process the file before opening it in the PS interface as a still. It does not seem like every IPP2 function is supported in the module but of course PS offers the rest of the tweaks you might want in its own tools. And ultimately being just a still capture, it seems effective. I just thought it was interesting that PS largely supports IPP2 and Premiere is still working on it.
