  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple’s Next Gen MacBook Pro 2012

Ahah thanks.

Both the MBP and MBPR use identical CPUs. The 2.7GHz processor on the MBPR does indeed have an 8MB L3 cache.

As the meme says: Shut up and take my money ;)
Was hoping that the "no internal ethernet/fw800" rumors were wrong, but this way (adapters) we can live with it.
So its the time to screw the mac pro and take this one ;)
is there any information about the two TB ports? 2 lanes or one?

Anyone else sad to see the 17" go away?

With that resolution you could easily have gone to a 27" screen, (a la iMac) but with a 15" frame dimension I doubt the human eye's ability to fully appreciate it.

This is totally not what I was waiting for, Mac , you have dissapointed me once again... I know you can do MUCH better.... common, al the other manufacturers have a system up to date, you had so much more time, less pressure....and still you couldn't pull it off..
so many professionals asking for more , more , more power...

Personally after having a HP laptop with pressure-sensitive Wacom pen support and touchscreen support, I'm not interested in downgrading to this :P

But then I do a lot of storyboarding and also flipping through scripts, etc.

Hopefully Apple fixes this for next year's model?

SSDs will be much cheaper by then anyway and there will be nVidia GPUs with good computer capabilities... so should be good!

Each Thunderbolt connector on any system, regardless of how many there are on the motherboard, are always dual-channel.

just talked to apple tech, no 3rd party ssd or ram upgradability for Mac Air or MBPR! regardless i'd love a retina display and might buy

I meant the PCI-E lanes not the 2 Channels each Thunderbolt port has.
Furthermore I wanted to know how many external GPUs, RedRocket, I/O can be added.

I want to know this as well... are the two ports on the same card or are they each capable of 2 10gbps channels simultaneously?

I went ahead and ordered the 2.7 as this is going to be my ONLY machine and the extra L3 Cache should theoretically improve Photo and Video rendering....

Copper-based Thunderbolt controllers are attached to the PCI Express bus over a PCIe x4 link, however the number of PCI Express lanes makes no difference (currently). Each port will always operate at 10 Gbps per channel.

For devices like GPUs and RED ROCKETs, you only want to be using one per Thunderbolt port.

I own a 2008 17" and its nice to have that 1900x1200 screen, but with the resolution of the retina and the small bump in size of the 15" I think it will not be that much of an issue. The reduced weight and height is a big plus to this model. I picture this to be "the" laptop for professionals in the photography, Design, music and low end video world. For the high end video stuff, 3D animation, etc. People might still want a higher spec PC notebook with a more powerful graphics card. Anyone know if this Nvidia card is CUDA enabled?

I'm confirming this with Apple's engineers. Until then, while this typically how Thunderbolt/PCIe links are configured, I can't verify that this is how the MBPR is set up.

The Nvidia GeForce GT 650M in the MBPR and the 15" MBP are indeed CUDA-enabled. It has 384 cores (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-650m/specifications).
