  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedUser Requests for Adobe

– A histogram or waveform in the import window
– White balance picker like in RCX
– Video I/O from that window

Or full transfer of R3D to 32 bit space in PPRo without clipping (plus white balance).

RRocket render (i think they are already working on it)
and video output through RRocket sdi

1. Histograms for sure. also Curves would be nice in PPro.

2. I'd like to see the Red source setting window docked instead of having to open in it up each time. Then, perhaps being able to set keyframes for the settings in the Red Source Settings window.

The other stuff mentioned above is all on my list as well.

first of all.. its a way much better app than any platform available for that price..
and the list of mods comes..

- all of the above.. (posts above)
- an option to choose what attributes to paste..
- a way to view histograms, waveforms etc, while viewing video output..
- a better re-linking algorithms..
- buy cineform or invent in a similar codec for intermediates and final backups..
- a way to import sequences only and not the whole project..
- an option to open multiple projects at the same time..
- mercury playback engine for AE and more effects to be GPU supported..
- support for SLI and Tesla..
- Lightroom develop panel like GPU accelerated effect.. also this would be cool for DNG workflow..
- standardize xmp grading workflow..
- changing effects parameters doesn't stop playback..
- remove grain effect inside PPro..
- support for all quicktime codecs.. hdv, etc, and not only prores..
- arabic language support for speech recognition..

I will write more when I remember..

One and only one thing for me.

I bought CS4 with the promise that they'd keep up with the builds and the color science, and frankly they hosed me.

Sure I'd like new features, but that is totally useless if I cant edit/process footage that is generated by the many new builds of the bios and sdk that are going to be required by the new hardware and RED's ongoing improvements to the entire stack.

Keep on top of that first before you add any new features please

Are you asking for CS4 updates? Or do you think we are missing RED support in the latest CS5 labs release? Just want to understand your complaint...

Adobe, please improve your editing tools.

- a way to import sequences only and not the whole project..

This is already supported, you should get a dialog box to select a sequence when you import a prproj

- support for all quicktime codecs.. hdv, etc, and not only prores..

What dod you mean here? We fully support QT in both AE and Mediacore. Many formats we decode natively faster than QT can do it.

May I just add how much I appreciate someone from Adobe actively monitoring this forum? I've never seen this from another company beginning with A…

With this attitude I have a lot of confidence in the product!

1. more camera abilities in the multicam editing. 4 is just not enough!!!
2. a bettery link solution in and out of FCP, lot of things missing from both feature sets when you do the xml loop.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for asking.

I bought CS4 because of the addition of R3D native support and the promise of ongoing support.

It was the lack of cs4 updates that was super frustrating. Only build 18 was supported for the longest time, I don't have exact figures, but months and months went by where the only choice for ingest was to trans-code because CS4 wasn't updated to work with several iterations of newer release builds and then a major change to the color science.

I was told by Adobe reps that you'd keep up with the camera builds, and frankly you folks dropped the ball. I'm a software guy, ran lots of big teams, Apple, Microsoft, etc. so I get that we are not going to get instantaneous turn around, it's going to take some time. But you folks were stuck in neutral for ages, and I could never get a strait answer about updates. What finally happened was the "wait for CS5" mantra.

Stability, particularly of Encore has also been an issue.

I'm on the fence about moving to CS5 or just sticking with FCP because of this.

Again thanks for asking, that in and of itself is a positive sign. And I truly appreciate the new presence on the forum, that is great.

All the best,

Steve

Ok you are correct. We could have done better in CS4 keeping up with RED changes. Things were complicated at the time as we were building our relationship with RED and trying to work on CS5 at the same time. I am newly in charge of the group that provides RED support (and all the other video formats, QT, P2, XDCam etc) and we plan to change the perception and keep on top of things. Hope everyone is noticing :)

I can't help with the CS4 issues but hopefully you will notice we are acting differently now. Just wait a bit and you will see that hanging with FCP will get boring compared to what we are doing...

Cheers
