  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple working with Red on FCPX Plugin !

No one at RED knows anything about it... (last I read)

There are a couple posts from Jim and Jarred that talk about this.

.......

.......

Jarred Land:
We would love to support FCP-X. And if someone sends us an API.. or SDK.. or whatever else we need... we will get right on it.

Contrary to what others are "officially" saying... There has been ZERO integration work started on it to this day ( at least on our side )..

Saw it here also:

http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/06/23/professional-video-editors-weigh-in-on-final-cut-pro-x/

Complaint: No support for RED digital cameras. The RED camera is a favorite of filmmakers; it records incredibly high-resolution video directly to a hard drive. But FCP X can’t import its files.

Answer: Apple is working with RED to create a plug-in that will give native RED support to FCP X. In the meantime, you can set your RED camera to shoot and capture video in the QuickTime format, which FCP X imports just fine. Or you can use RED’s free conversion program, which converts its own files into the Apple ProRes format, which FCP X loves because it’s so much faster and easier to edit than the native RED files.

you'll noticce that he says "set the RED to shoot in the quicktime format" Which I hope he is talking about proxies. so if you edit with proxie you can spit out and EDL...
no wait...dooh!!!!

Has Apple in the past, worked with RED on .R3D files and FCP7 etc? It follows that they can work with .R3D and FCP-X.

Jim's post was pretty clear, and the new york times article seems like fcpx propaganda

It's an article written by someone who isn't a professional. I'm just not sure why this is still floating around. They should take down the article. If the point about red collaboration is false, then what else in that article.

It sounds like those fanboys who make up things about what apple is doing because they want it to be true.
There's nothing official from apple yet, so we would be smart not to listen to such nonsense articles.

When someone endlessly bashes "fanboys" and Apple on a variety of threads over and over again - does that make them an "anti-fanboy"?

Which in reality is just the negative opposite of the fanboy they hate so much, and possibly worse than the fanboys themselves :)

First off, is it worse then the fanboys who spread false information and complicates discussions about professional tools? I don't think so.
Second, I really dislike when these "fans" are complicating discussions and analysis of the software released. The article is written in a pretty subjective matter and with false information that is now spreading around the net. People, or to say they truth, "fans", are using this article as "evidence" when they bash the negativity around the professional community.

So, it makes things complicated and I'm not the one to be the funny mr nice guy who let those people rant such false things. It's actually affecting my work. I need to explain over and over again to clients and less technical co-workers why FCPX isn't an option and won't be for a while. Then they refer to stuff they read online that things are gonna get fixed soon, while nothing really points to it.

So yes, call me a "fanbasher", I will be proud of being that kind of net-knight. I want the truth, the rational to be spoken, not the "yey, it's awesome and Apple are gonna fix everything for you because I believe so". That is NOT a professional way of dealing with a software that has these shortcomings.

Apple hasn't communicated a thing and nothing is officially said about the roadmap for fixes, period.

Isn't a negative opposite a positive? Hmmmm....

Hateboy?

Always confounds me when someone with a wild-eyed rant claims to possess "the truth." So called "fanboys" ( a highly subjective and often inaccurate description) only spread lies because they are stupid and incapable of thinking for themselves. However (!!!), the "fanbasher" and self aggrandizing, self-proclaimed "net knight" speaks the objective and absolute truth so that we can all be lifted higher. "Follow me and you will be saved!" Sounds like some religious zealots I've observed.

You are entitled to your opinion. Just don't pretend it's the only worthy one.

I have yet heard much credible things rooted in reality from fanboys. Do you consider yourself to be a fanboy? It seems that when I say "fanboy" there are some that take notice and need to defend... what?
A fanboy is still a fanboy, someone who blindly follow something to the length of twisting the truth to favor his/her own opinions. I did not say you are a fanboy, I just say I think fanboys aren't very constructive during discussion. I also said that I'm gladly a "fanboybasher" if you want to call it that.

There's a difference between being a fan and a fanBOY. What I find most interesting is why it seems you are defending these fanboys? Aren't we all aiming for some truth? Some facts? Some credible theory not rooted in personal opinion?

I have pointed out these things:
1. FCPX is not able to give professionals the most basic professional workflow standards of today.
2. The article that has been spread around saying Red and Apple are working on a solution is false on that point, stated by Red themselves. Are there more false things in that article? Who knows?
3. Apple does not communicate which creates certain problems for professionals who need to make their own roadmap for technological investments in the future.
4. Some people keep bashing down on professionals who say this software doesn't work for their workflow. These people who bash them argue that FCPX is the future and people need to wait.
5. Professionals can't wait, they need to move away from FCP7 soon and FCPX is not an option. Some people seem to be non-willing to let these professionals wait and [see point 4]
6. Looking back, Apple doesn't have a good record on changing strategies or keeping good software alive, which means we might not see the updates and fixes we hope for, not in the short run. Because of this... [see point 5]

This is a very short summery of what I've been saying. I have yet heard any good posts that counter it and most of the time I just need to defend myself against posts that has nothing more then what Terry just wrote.

I have no beef in fighting with others, but I don't like being jumped upon with mindless ranting questioning me based on superpersonal opinions and wishes about Apple.
Tell me, exactly what in those points I described up there is out of personal opinions?

Also, there seem to be a general idea among the supporters that saying shit twords the critical people is ok, but not if we criticize you?

Thanks for supporting my point, Chris. Seems your truth is the only one, no matter what others believe or say. It is not my mission to convert you to anything.

Did you read my post? What "truth" are you referring too? I find it interesting that you keep answering like this. Please, if you feel that I'm wrong with the points which are my main criticism, then write something about them instead of this vague dismissive tone of arrogance.

You are entitled to your opinion. Just don't pretend it's the only worthy one.

It's not the only worthy one, just the one that's not predicated on the rainbow-streaming FCPX of joy from the future. The here and now is where the non-fanboy working professional without a flux-capacitor is concerned.

Do you see the title of this post, and the fact that it was based an unresearched yet propagated untruth published by fanboy who has revised his article a few times now?

The passionate pleas of wait-and-see patience by those who do not mind the high-and-mighty behavior of Apple is sad actually. Far sadder than their perceived anger of those scorned by such behavior venting in frustration.
