Ok, this is completely off-topic, but i got a new MacBook Pro and i am wondering wether keep on using Apple Mail, switch to MS Outlook or to use something different like Airmail or Thunderbird.

What are you using and why?

best wishes and kind regards,
Martin

I use apple mail, I think it has a pretty clean interface and it's worked reasonably well though I do use an iCloud @me.com email address to do the bulk of my mail. I've got a gmail address but mostly what I get from it these days is my iTunes receipts and notifications from youtube.
I couldn't comment on Outlook but the minimal experience with it was that it wasn't very intuitive, I haven't tried thunderbird either.
It probably depends on your mail service as well.

I've used Outlook for years on the Mac (and Entourage before that), and actually think it has a lot of features beyond Apple Mail. It's also pretty transparent between Windows and Mac. It is more complicated to use than Apple Mail, but it's also got a helluva lot of features.

I would say it depends on your email provider.
Gmail? Use the web interface all the way. No software to worry about, no loss of mail on local storage, no incompatibilities.
Yahoo has also made some impressive strides on their web UI.

If you're looking for a lightweight client, Airmail is very quickly gaining popularity: http://airmailapp.com/features

thanks for your insights - my friend and coworker tested airmail and switched back to apple mail now, so I will follow him ;-)

best wishes and kind regards,
martin

I use Airmail on my Mac and iPhone and I like it 300% better than Apple Mail. Hard to explain why but Apple Mail feels painful for me. I tried Outlook too and that was REALLY painful.
