  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Apple 8 cores per proccesor

too bad theres no software to support it. I think i have yet to touch the 4th processor on my chip yet. All these hardware advances, and most software companies are just getting hyperthreading down. Its great for gaming, but the rest of the software sector has to take the hint and keep up.

In Apple's case it's kind of like selling an 8 cylinder car with 4 working.

That sounds more like you're not using it, than that it cannot be used...

Meaning you are getting full core usage in whole FCS ?

1. Compressor clusters is only a partial solution and doesn't help in many occasions.

2. Compressor has issues, mildly put.

3. Apple likes to brag about practicality and out-of-the-box working system.

4. Do you buy a car and fiddle with it to be able to use all cylinders ?

No.

But I get them out of Compressor, Redline, Easy DCP, and some other renderers where I need them most.

The point is that it is more a siftware issue when it doesn't work, than a platform issue.

For my needs - when I need it:
Bring out the cores!

As Jeff eloquantly stated in another thread.. Lets code properly for these chips first.

Nehalem EX is a server processor (2P or 4P); it's not really intended for workstations (1P or 2P). Plus it's ungodly expensive.

Wait for Apple to pick up Gulftown.
