  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone want to give this a grade?

Just curious to what other looks people might have for this. This is from our most recent short film.
Shot at 5k with Angenieux Optimo 17-80

Here is my grade:

I think they are both nice, but where in the context of the story is this shot from? The each have a unique look and feel and should be supporting the story and emotion in the story you are telling. For example, the first one could be a scene before a battle where the worry on the face is in juxtaposition to the brighter more color of the image - either denoting hope, or perhaps even time of day, etc. The second one could be from after the battle - the harsh reality, numbness, etc. Again, those choices support those emotional arcs you are creating.

Elliot, what's the context of the shot? Thanks.

P.S. That attached grade was done before reading your explanation of the context.

The main actor on screen got separated from his platoon, followed a small child through the woods and a cave. From the cave he goes into a alternate world and walks out to his farm house back home. This scene he is walking up to his farm house greeting a man that tries to get him to take his family out of the dark place they are in and move to a new city. In the film he ends up killing his family and he flashes back to war scenes where his whole company is wiped out.. It's a trippy thriller.

What's the time of day?

And is this bright scene or a dark one? Leaving war sounds bright, but you say the family is in a dark place. And how realistic vs fantastical does the movie look?

It's more of a eerie feel, early morning time of day. Dark and realistic

Just a few curve adjustments in DaVinci and I was able to get a "Farm" look :).

That's pretty funny
