Hello

I know the Paralinx Ace SDI wireless transmitter is pretty new, but has anyone tried it yet? Great price at $1800 which is about $700 cheaper than Teredek (which is solid / works well).

I have a ghetto Nyrius Aries Pro which really sucks as it goes out all the time. Need a solid SDI connection so hoping the Ace is the way to go.

Also, how is Paralinx customer service? As I move along in my career, I now realize how important good CS is.

Haven't used the Ace SDI, just the arrow. But I can say that the customer service is truly incredible. Dan Kanes is one of the most attentive business owners I've ever come across. He puts quality of service on the same level as the quality of product and he's incredibly accessible. Truly a great guy!

Sorta right. Vitec bought Paralinx. They also own Teradek and lots of other companies.

Had a brand new Ace freakout on me on a job end of last year. Wouldn't pair and would power down randomly. Cant speak for the distances / signals as we were unable to get it working.

Was a rental, so cant speak to if it was a one off issue.
Seemed much more fiddly than a Arrow.

Keen try a Triton as at least it has a display to see what is happening.

I have to say that Paralinx's customer service, through Dan Kanes, was one of the best in the biz. Unfortunately he's not with the company anymore...

Hi Gentlemen,

First, thank you for the kind words!

I'd like to say that Paralinx will continue to uphold the legacy of being a company created by camera people, for camera people.

That means that service and support should be as good, if not faster and better than it was under my watch.

My co-founder Greg Smokler was kind enough to take up the torch and raise it high as I needed time to focus on my family , and for that I'm very thankful to him, as well as to Nicol Verheem , founder of Teradek who saw the passion and strength in Paralinx and became a believer in what we were doing, and said "you know what - we can make a stronger world for our mutual customers by working together and learning from each other instead of fighting to destroy each other's work". That's huge.

Gene, your post ID says you're in Los Angeles, that means that you easily have access to the Creative Solutions Showroom - which offers hands on demonstrations of great brands like Paralinx, SmallHD, and Teradek and more - even O'Connor support equipment.

The friendly and knowledgeable people there all have and still do work in cinematography in different capacities, and they are eager to hear your needs and help you find the right combination of equipment and support as well.

Happy 2016 to all!

Oh, and small technical note - if in New Zealand, region setting should be Asia Pacific - which can be set in the Paralinx software tool. This is needed for the transmitter and receiver both.

Hey everybody.

Thanks Dan(s) for chiming in here. Dan and I founded Paralinx on the idea that we would be a customer service and support company that happened to make great products for filmmakers. While Dan may have moved on to greener pastures, we still have the same great team of sales, service and support technicians taking care of any issues that may come up. If you're in LA you can stop by our new showroom at CSLA and meet these fine people. There may have been some uncertainty when the news came out that Paralinx was joining forces with Teradek, so I just want to make it clear that this is a great outcome. Now we are stronger and better-equipped to stand behind our products for the long haul, while gaining greater resources to continue bringing better tools to film sets near you!

I'd like to think the Ace is a perfect example of this. The Ace is an ultra-lightweight and affordable wireless system, made here in California. It has a range of around 300' and offers a professional wireless SDI uncompressed video link at an unparalleled price of $1799. As Dan mentioned, Gene it says there that you're based in LA. We'd love to show you a demo of the system if you have a few minutes to drop by our "genius bar" at Creative Solutions Los Angeles at 5329 West San Fernando Road. CSLA is the flagship showroom of our new Division within Vitec--made up of three great new brands: Paralinx, Teradek and SmallHD--and our mission is to provide people access to come check out every single product from our companies, speak with an expert, and also receive service and support for products from all three brands. We have dedicated team here who can help troubleshoot a system, facilitate a repair or in an emergency even make a local house-call.

Now Fergus, I'm sorry you had this issue, and I checked that the support guys were working on your issue. (Broken equipment) sometimes happens, so we're here to take care of it if it does. Please contact me directly if you or ANY of you guys and gals have any issues at all.

Thanks Greg and Dan, I suspect that it may not have been configured correctly by the rental house, now seeing your notes! I have always been a user and fan of Paralinx. So I was surprised when I had issues. - It's always hard when gear is rented, would love to use one for a longer period or get one myself before giving any real feedback. - It was just an initial on set impression.

I got mine at the end of last year and have used it on a few jobs now and it has worked flawlessly! Love it!!!

At the moment i'am shooting a feature film in Amsterdam and we use Ace (sdi) with 2 receivers. It works perfect!!
Best Robert

didnt their used to be a tiny little hdmi version?
looking for something super small for the raven in a compact configuration.

from what i heard theyre all the same parts inside and both paralinx and teradek get their parts and boards from amimon.

Nope, thats not true. Teradek has their own FPGA and firmware. However, both Paralinx and Teradek do use Amimon's WHDI technology.

I purchased a Nyrius Aries Pro wireless HDMI feed for $699 in February. Within same month, they dropped the price to $399. I called up to make a complaint and received horrible customer support. They told me they were not going to honor the difference in price and basically to screw off. I've had the device for not even 3 months and it's broken. It stopped working on set and made me look awful in front of the client. These are el-cheapo junk products made in China. Not reliable! I would not recommend this product or company to anyone.

have had nothing but issues with Paralinx, Its been very frustrating but bought me some Teradek 600 Bolt and man rarely and I mean rarely no issues with love it. Don't buy Paralinx industry standard is Teradek on set too.

Currently torn between Teradek Bolt 600 or Paralinx Arrow-X 1:2.
Strictly judging from a signal standpoint.
I know the Teradek has a lot of nice bells and whistles but up until now i really haven't used much of it.
i have all the LUTs loaded in the smallhd generally.

My experience is
Bolt 300 - very good for the package but signal feels weak at times.
Paralinx Tomahawk - flawless.
Teradek 2000 - had some transmission issues but i was in a stadium with some interference

Never used either of the mid level tx/rx systems.
