I own two of the 5ft sliders and feel I have to support them in the middle, and both ends. I'm selling one 5ft slider and thinking of a buying a 3ft.

Does anyone know if you can simply center mount the 3ft? (using the 100mm bowl mount on a suitable set of 100mm sticks)

The website says you can but I'm skeptical.

Thanks!

i think this works, if I recall. Should be able to mount it on a Hercules head, if I'm not mistaken? Check with Kessler first though.

I don't have the cineslider, but I have the 3ft Bloom dolly. I think it depends on the weight of the Camera/head group you're sliding on top, on whether you need support other than the middle. My experience with an Epic, once you've added lens, battery, 'camera support head', etc. is that it would take a pretty beefy head to handle all that eccentric force, 1.5 ft from the centre point. Perhaps Kessler's own 'Hercules 2' head, rated at 150 lbs can handle it...but then again it was made for this kind of work more than as a real camera head (in my opinion).

I'm also looking into various possibilities such as using a high hat adapter:

Or getting a pair of smaller tripods to put at each end of the slider (no center tripod).

NB: this was written before seeing your post Tom!

Yeah I have the 3ft and have used it with the epic centre mounted and worked fine, had to spread the Tripod legs a fair bit though to keep it solid. Worked well though.

I have the 3' Cineslider as well. You can center mount it on the Hercules head but it's four screws not quick release so it is a bit slow. I had two 3/8-16 threaded holes drilled so I could use quick release plates and it works great. The biggest issue you will have is that many 100mm ball heads will slip from the weight. A 150mm head will be much more stable. Beefy legs will a center spreader will help. My Miller Solo ENG sticks are a little too light to use without a monopod or c-stand supporting one end.

With Epic 3 foot didnt work and that was on a 150mm head. It still needed a second supprt. We also want to buy another 5 foot slider as we hoped we could use a 3 foot slider.

* I don't mount directly to a tripod head, just to the legs using the sort of thing Jean posted (hi-hat adapter). The hercules head isn't an option as it's a pretty useless piece of gear when not using the slider. I'm actually not worried about the bowl slipping, I can put my camera package on my 5ft slider and the bowl doesn't slip. But the slider is too weak and begins to flex. I'm wondering if the 3ft has the same sort of flex?

Ryan, how heavy is your camera rig that you are mounting on the CineSlider? In regards to center mounting the 3' CineSlider, as long as you are mounting on our Ball Mount or Hercules Head, it is rated for up to 35 pounds center mounted.

I have the 3' Bloom model. Needs 2 point support. Will say not the smoothest slide action - some tight spots from L to R. Just got the 3' Cine yesterday as part of the PocketJib kit. Will report back once I get it put together and tested.

Josh, please contact our tech support, because it should be consistently smooth. An adjustment may be needed. Thanks -Chris

20 Lbs at the most. From what your saying - it will 100% work?

I have the 3 foot and herc head. I am using it with my miller sticks. With my red 1 and miller arrow55 I have problems with the ball head slipping when the camera is off to one side and feel it needs support. I haven't grid my epic yet.

If you flip over the cup washer (that goes underneath the bowl of your tripod), so the flat side is up, that will lock out the ball leveling and keep the ball from slipping.

Beller, you should come around here more often. :yesnod:
