  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone having playback issues ie) Footage is playing back faster than 24 frames?

Hey guys, all of a sudden my R3D footage is playing back at what seems like a sped up pace; even though it was shot 23.97 and says it's what it's being played at in Red Cine-X. I'm using the latest Beta, tried CUDA and OPENCL.. Same issue. Any ideas?

What was your project frame-rate set us? (not the capture frame-rate)
Clips are always played back at the project's frame-rate - not the capture frame-rate. This allows for immediate preview of both slow-motion and time-lapse footage...

Everything recorded at 23.97. Not sure what's going on or if I just haven't slept in 3 days.. Maybe I'm losing my mind. Just tried re-installing drivers and rebooting and seems better; but I'm still noticing something. Probably just my head playing with me now.

Vladimir - it is not about what speed you record at. Please check your actual project speed settings (see the manual if you are not sure where this is) - this is completely independent of the recording speed, which, unlike the project FPS, is shown on top of the UI... We do the most basic mistakes when we are tired.
The good news is that if this is indeed the case - you can just set your NLE's timeline to 23.97 and your clips will play at correct speed...

I think what may be happening is frame skiping projet frame rate is 23.98 and recording at 23.976, could this be the reason? a small frame rate discrepancy?

Open the clip(s) in question in RCXP and on the top right corner select the Meta tab...:

Meta.jpg

Note the following fields:

Frame Rate
Record Frame Rate

The second should show 23.976 as that is the speed you are sure you have recorded at. But what does the "Frame Rate" field show?

In meta data both show 23.976 , in camera I had record at 23.976 and Project at 23.98 but now for some weird reason my Scarlet is letting me go to 3:1 compression and is defaulting to 23.98 fps.. not sure what's going on.

23.98 is just a abbreviation of 23.976 - they are the same frame-rates. This should not be causing your problems. Are you playing the clip back in the camera or on a PC? If on a PC - try copying the clip on a REDMAG (keep the same folder structure) and see how it plays in camera...
Other then that I would reach out to RED support...

Actually does seem to be the stuff I captured today, my other footage seems to be playing back okay but my other footage was not shot on the beta firmware. hmm. Will reach out to RED.

Thanks for the help, will reach out to them. Seems like it's the specific project that's doing it.

p.s: I never noticed Scarlet-X allowed me to shoot at 3:1 compression, for some reason it's all of a sudden allowing me to do so at 4k or 4k ws at 23.98 frames. BUG?

Okay very weird, I'm noticing at the very bottom where it shows the frame-rate at which something is playing back. It's not 23.976/23.98 solid; it's ranging from 22.x ro 23.x all over the place. Might go to 12 etc.. what the

Vlad if you wanna meet, we can try some comparison tests with your Red and mine. Check settings and do some simultaneous records, I'm free Wednesday. Just let me know.
