  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any updates on the Epic Pro Audio Module??

Pro connectors are pretty important in the field. For me, having smaller cables dangling around the lens where I am reaching and adjusting iris and focus is annoying.

I went with the Action Products solution as a stop gap until the Pro I/O is available.

Being able to plug this camera into a standard doco shoot for me is quite important.

There is also a solution from Wooden Camera to look at... but it would be great to have some news on the Pro I/O.

Why, the sound quality is exactly the same..?

OK, that deserves a gentle thump on the head. It very well may be the same sound quality, but working with XLR jacks are much more preferable to those mini jacks. The Epic was to get away from some of the inherent issues with the R1, one being the mini XLRs. Now we've gone from bad to worse, in a sense, with the mini jacks. Want the Pro I/O. Need the Pro I/O. Sometime soon, puhleeze?

Stuart-
I have no issues with the "Quality" of the sound, but am bemoaning the form factor and Quantity of the inputs themselves.

My goal is to replicate my "run n gun" Red One setup in a much more compact and higher quality EPIC package.

With the Red One, being able to record 3-4 separated live sources (w/ phantom power) into camera, WITHOUT using an external mixer, has proven to be EXTREMELY useful... And allows me to travel with the barest minimum accessories for extreme shoots, where quite literally ALL lighting, audio, and camera gear must somehow either fit ON CAMERA or stow in the operator's pockets.

Right now if I choose to go EPIC, I am reduced to 2 inputs that both require adaptors (...that don't even lock in like the Red One's MiniXLRs... another disadvantage...), so my audio capabilities take a huge step back from where I am right now with my Red One.

The EPIC Pro-Audio Module should completely fix this issue, so I, and others I'm sure, would greatly appreciate an update as to the present status/capabilities of this module.

Best,
CK

We might be interested in making an audio module. If anyone would like to contact me with what they see as important, necessary or what is lacking out there in options. I would be interested in hearing about it. Thanks

@Jason
Knobs and meters to be able to handle levels in "one man band" situations would be golden. Fiddling around in the menus in a hot situation is no fun.

Agreed, if the cost doesn't go through the roof. Otherwise, I can live with the lcd, but would prefer meters. Actually, what I thought would be nifty is a Sound Devices module built right inline. That would be great to have the function of a SD 522 in an Epic sized module.
