  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

any other aviation lovers here?

That's a great compilation. I've unfortunately never made it to Oshkosh.

If it weren't for being seduced by film making I would have most likely have ended up a pilot. Oh to have two lives to live.

Flying is awesome. I've got a few hours towards my pilot's license and would love to get more, but I have to wait for the work to pick up before I can afford it...

Still, it's so much fun to fly.

My dad was in the Air Force (not a pilot), so not only did I go to lots of air shows, but I got see many of those jets up close and personal. I never got to fly in any but I did get to sit in the cockpit of an F-16 while the pilot fired up the engines. Pretty freaking sweet.

I've gotten to AirVenture several times over the last decade, and I thoroughly enjoy myself every time in spite of the heat and humidity, and eating too much good German food in Appleton.

I got to fly one leg of a trip to Oshkosh in a Pilatus PC-12 (thanks Chris), what a treat.

I'm selling my last airplane at present, I just don't have the time anymore to keep up my skills, and with two in college cost is also a factor.

Nothing in the world like flying a complicated "hairy" approach at over a hundred knots in hard IFR "keep you speed up 32BL, come right to one two zero, descend maintain one thousand two hundred, contact approach one two zero point one gooday" and finally easing out at minimums to the very welcome sight of of runway light right off the nose.

But what I miss most is cruising at better than 200 knots in class A airspace down the west coast just after the sun sets in my favorite airplane. I swear to you there are colors of deep blue-greens and purples seen up there that aren't seen anywhere else in nature.

I spent a lot of time and money working with TAT to STC and turbonormalize the B36TC, and that work upped the useful load of every other TAT Bonanza ever upgraded.

http://taturbo.com/frames.html - and look for the TCP whirlwind system. N32BL was one hell of an airplane. Though 7687N is more fun fly, just not as practical for business use.

Keep the dirty side down, and the pointy end forward gentlemen.

More than a fan Zak, I was a pilot for about five years before being retrenched post 9/11 and having to find a new career.... which turned out to be movie making! :)

Thanks for posting the AirVenture clip - the cameraman definitely has a C-47 fetish!! :D I used to fly with a Captain whose first command was one!

Here's me learning to fly:

I love planes, especially experimentals. Even helped build a few. Check out x-jets.com for my old man's business.

I love most air and spacecrafts. ... just waiting for 4K footage of spacewalk :)

Awesome, I was at OshKosh in '97, '98 and '00, definitely an amazing aerial experience, though I am partial to Helicopter aviation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWaehyJb0pg I shot that last year in Afghanistan, the closing reverse shot is the first of it's kind (at least in a combat zone) because of the refueling probe on the HH-60G.

Scott. My cousin is a lieutenant commander in the Navy, he use to fly helicopters but is obviously now commanding from a tower on a ship, but hes big into filming too. has shot a few naval aviation videos, and Has a buddy with a Red im told... I love naval aviation as well as civilian

big nerd as far as flying goes:)

Scott, your Afghan Red footage from a couple of years ago was amazing. Kudos on managing that beast of a camera in such a difficult environment!

Cheers from Tokyo,

The world's only airworthy B29 Superfortress is supposed to fly at this airshow http://airsho.org/ that takes place in early October. It flew a test flight recently after a complete retrofit but a propeller problem caused piston damage to one of the 4 engines. The engine was sent off and repaired, and supposedly she (Fifi) will perform at the show.

Likewise, I spent my teenage years as a USAF Auxiliary Cadet thinking I wanted to fly fixed wing, until that orientation ride in a Huey changed everything ;).

Thanks! I only wish I could go back in time when the Scarlet/Epics are out. The R1 is feasible with a bit of support, but the pure autonomy of the Scarlet/Epic will allow for a true revolution in historical footage acquisition.

Scott I really hope you or someone shoots a documentary on the CSAR. It would be an amazing miniseries to follow the pilots, doctors, soldiers and support personnel.
