Of course it would depend on whether the sensor is MX or not. But assuming that Epic-S price stays around 12K, what price range do you think Red Ones will be selling for?

I believe the epic s body is 12k...

your looking at adding modules like sound, video, power, cards/ssd and other stuff that is already inside of the red one..

I think people are really hoping the price of used red ones will sink below 12k..
they wont.

i will say nice packages (no glass)
will go for 15-25 depending on whats in it.

It's nice to think our babies will keep their value but time marches on and you have to ask why someone would pay that much. Posts on epic-s pricing have been a little vague, but the implication has seemed to be that you could get a working epic s (no glass or media) for $14-15K or so - very competitive price wise with Sony f3. Once Epic-s is readily available, If you figured the mx sensor upgrade by itself is $5500 it would make the comparable value of a "new with warranty" R1-M about $9000 and then knock off 25% for used/out of warranty - gets you to $6750 - even setting aside all of the Epic additional features (HDRx™™™, size, redmote, side handle configuration, legal canon ef mount, power consumption, ssd, frame size and rates, modularity, ergonomics, etc.) Considering all of those features would drive the relative value even lower although I think the price will probably hover around $6000 simply because there is nothing comparable at a price point in between.

I'm guessing that an M-X body with the CF module will be about $10K by the end of the year. . . IF Epic-S comes out on time. Extras will be, of course, extra.

As for me, I'll hate to see the old girl (#791) go, but when Stage III comes around, there's where I'll be.

From a sellin pov i´d say something like this:

Epic Stage 2: 19.500.- USD
Epic Stage 3: 10.500.- USD

wich gives me a value of 9.000.- for a used red to sell at absolute minimum, otherwise i´d go stage 3 and send the cam back.

So the value to sell a Red One MX body is now somewhere between 25.000 - and 9000.- me thinks. Right now more towards 25.000.- after Epic and Scarlet hit the ground more towards 9.000.-

I´m not planning on selling my Red MX so this is pure speculation.

It's all about the moment. At this moment an executed R1(M) is probably worth about $11,000, which is the stage 2 trade-in value plus a bit of a bonus.

All about supply and demand. In 8 months from now I would expect the value to be about $7,000 for an M and maybe $8,500 for an MX.

Will always be a great camera but that's not the point. My Mac II cx from 1990 is still a great computer.

Those are prices we can all love. I'd take it for that.

For 7000 dollars I wouldn't sell it in 8 months. The camera is still far too good for that. As much as we all drool over Epic and Scarlet, I personally think that the difference between these new cams and the Red Ones are - relatively - only a small upgrade. Might be worth it in many occasions of course. But if we wouldn't have a Red One already and I could go from shooting some old cam to a Red One for 7000 dollars, I think I would not be able to stop laughing about the great deal I just made.

I may be way off but the only way I see selling for 7000 dollars in 8 months happening, is when someone needs quick cash or is willing to sponsor fresh talent with a cheap yet great camera.

guys i would love for it to get down that cheap 7000 or so. but there is just no way i can imagine that happening. let's be honest even R1 with NON MX sensor is FAR more powerful/better than the current crop of best cams under 20k like sony ex3, new AF100 and probably even the upcoming F3.
how can the Red MX which is not even comparable to these cameras (way above them) suddenly depreciate by hundreds of percentage of its value OVER NIGHT? Can you imagine a Red MX over night suddenly costing as much as an Ex1 or AF100? I just can't fathom it. I think it's impossible. There will be some way that red will use to prop up the prices whether it is by crippling the Epic-S a little bit so that it's not incredibly superior to the MX Red, or something along those lines. I have just personally never in my life seen a professional product, car, house anything depreciate and lose more than twice its value literally over night, it's a bizarre concept and doesn't seem realistic

the day the red 1 did had her 1st commercial job in the real world, the sony F35 lost 150 000 of its value. epic s is the future, complete package for 20 k, so a red MX with assec. will go between 10-13 k based on the number of assecoires. my guess only.
regarding the other sub 15k cams.
next 3 years 50%+ of the productions will use red cameras.
buying lenses now would make sense :)
some rental companies think in 5 years they wont rent out cams. only lenses and camera support.
so they start to invest in lenses.

Cuneyt Kaya honestly this concept frightens me! Imagine in 2-5 years, Red MX quality cams are 2-3k$ and every prosumer and CONSUMER noob in the world is capable of producing stunning 5k+ footage equivalent to any big budget hollywood production. on one hand this will be one of the most epochal, grandiose, momentous moments in film / electronic /artistic history, on the other hand the thought is utterly deplorable and frightening! the indie market will crash!

Great technology is always deflationary to the industry in which it is introduced.

I think what will happen to values of MXed RED ONES - they will drop to the level of the EPIC-S, the cameras will be roughly equivalent, but on the sell side, you'll have to throw in bunches of money-saving accessories....

My mantra is: the value of the RED ONE won't be what you can sell it for - it will be in what you can make with it.

I mean it's just unbelievable. in matter of months the previously 17,500 Red One Mysterium could be selling for 5k and people snapping them up to shoot their disney vacation in 4k, or to shoot uncle joes birthday party. LOL

moore or murphys law (dont know how its called) is hitting the camera world, only that RED is doing the 18 months circle (red m, red mx, epic---then monstro then....dunno legend?) like with computers.

red is doing it for the pro market (arri's cam department will suffer most),
canon with their dslr's is doin it on the prosumer level.

we are talking about computers with a mount here.

i dont know how the department heads of sony/panasonic etc. can sleep.
i am not talking about today.
And in 18 months the fun time begins when a today sony f3 buyer tries to sell his cam and no mother fucker wants to pay even 5000 dollars hehe.

back to the department head...well what does he want to offer which can compete
to scarlet/epic or a battle tested Red MX?

F3?? I wouldn't pay 1000$ for that later this year if I can get a red One Mysterium for 5k.
who wants to shoot 2k long GoP compressed BS when you can shoot 4k raw???

I heard there's some guy in France selling an Epic for 7000 euros.

One thing to consider is that there will be a limited number of R-1s available for sale. We still do not know what RED intends to do with trade-ins. If they do a refurb program, that will set the market. Used cameras will be sold depending on their condition.
