  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any Eizo CG245W experience?

Hi, I'm looking for a new grading monitor,

Any experience with Eizo CG245W? Or better alternatives?. I only need HD 10bit + hardware calibration.

My budget are 3000$.

Unless things have changed, the Eizo won't work with the Decklink card. They have a clash over their DVI specs. Been bitten by that one myself. I'd look at HP Dream Colours if you can't afford a TV Logic.
 
Shane i readed in other post this

We looked at the Eizo's but until the very recent new CG245, the CG-range did also not natively support 50-48hz signals. The new CG245 has a 'secret' startup to enable those frequencies on the displayport connector !- activate range to wide with use speciale menu- see chapter 3.6 of the usersmanual. Also use the hdlink pro displayport with the latest firmware 3.5 and use a usb cable on the hdlink pro to enable in the HDLink Utility preferences the override EDID settings. This combination gives native 50hz and 48hz images on the CG245, which is a natively 10bit panel, and has build-in video color profiles for EBU, REC709, etc. There is even a DCP profile, but then the display expects an xyz signal, so the rgb of the hdlink pro give a 'green' image. You can solve this by making your own DCP profile that you can upload into the monitor with the free eizo software and the build-in calibration probe

In the case that it works... What its better eizo or dreamcolor?
 
Shane, if you wouldn't mind, could you elaborate on the problems you've experienced with Eizo monitors in the Decklink-HD Link scenario? Any insight would be very useful to me. Especially as it relates to working with the CG243W through DisplayPort.

Well, from Jose has said, it may be that my info is out of date. Certainly neither the people at Eizo nor my "mates" at BMD have seen fit to let me know it's fixed but, hey...

The issue we found was indeed an EDID clash between BMD signal and the Eizo monitor. We could get ours to accept an 8 bit source but it simply did not like the signal in 10 bit mode. Nuthin'. Just "No Signal". I hope it's fixed. I'll have to try Jose's suggestions and see if I can make it work. I still have the Eizo and use it as a 2k screen in our DIT cart.

I guess all I can suggest is try before you buy. That said, love the TV Logic Grade A.

I have a couple of Eizos. My oldest is a CG 240 that came 4 years ago with an upgrade version which supported 48 and 50 Hz. From then on all Eizos from the CG range support 24p, 25p, 50i, 60i etc...

The Eizo CG 245 is a younger release than the Dream Colour. Generally one can say that Eizos core strengths is to build high-end monitors for a comparable low price. The CG 243 is a bargain, IMHO. HP, on the other hand, is making fine workstations and such but has not be famous for their monitors - until the Dream Colour arrived.

I just recalibrated the old CG 240 and it still looks fabulous. Surely its newer brothers have a more solid black that streches deeply into the corners but even the old display shows great contrast and delicate colours.

I calibrate the Eizos to sRGB, Gamma 2.35 (basically Rec709) and 100 CD. This way I have more punch in the whites which on the flipside make the blacks look deeper. The default 80 CD is nicer to the eyes and recommended for print but has not enough juice for film.
