  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Antichrist - Anthony Dod Mantle - incredible work

What the Dogme concept was meant to give, was not crappy pictures. Apart from being a 'counterattack' at what Hollywood had become, it was a also a way of making more space for the actors. Give them more to work with, and letting the camera being an observer of what took place within that space of the scene. I don't know if it is because of this movement or not. But Hollywood seem to be using the handheld camera a bit more, like in the two Bourne-sequels. Anthony Dod Mantle shot another of the original 4 dogme films. A film called "Mifunes last song" which was shot on film, and wasn't shaken and all. So big kudos to him for holding that heavy camera on his shoulder.

A dogmatic manifesto aimed at removing the cinematic art and delivering a documentary of a play.

Incredibly cinematography, I had no idea this was shot on RED (minus the overcranked material?)...and if so I would say its one of the best looking RED pictures ever released.

Just came out in home video here in the US.

OH MY GOD! This was an incredible film! What a team (von Trier + Mantle)! To say that I 'really liked' this movie is kind of an odd thing to say, given that it is absolutely horrific. Perhaps 'reverence' is a better term...

It seems to me that they were just operating from a special place of pure freedom -

There are so many riches and interesting cinematographic ideas in this film. There is a strange cut or move that stays with me for some reason ... it's like a dolly or push right into Charlotte G's hair, used as a transition element - very bizarre and interesting, I've never really seen anything like that before. But really the whole film is like that, nothing standard about it.

So many good ideas....

Absolutely Matthew. Pure art. Stunning. Performances are brilliant. I will never see an acorn the same way...
