Antenna X upgrade info for epic going out

I received my yesterday...upgrading my two Epics. Great service from RED any way you look at it :)

Red service and customer care is beyond amazing. Name another company that treats their customers to free anything. Thank you.

completely agree but in this case its not really free stuff but a fix for a system that was often unusable.

Got my new antenna yesterday afternoon, I was testing the camera/REDMOTE today to see what I was getting before and was shooting through two walls and it was working and controlling my camera. Installing it tomorrow, excited to see how it will do and just how far it will allow control after installation.

Thank you RED for upgrading the antenna.

Best,
Frazier

Are all epic X cameras getting an upgrade?

I'd presume if you didn't get a mail about it, then your camera comes with the new antenna already installed.

Drop your rep a mail to check?

No, I'm saying another company would say it's not a problem, that it was designed to only work within 5 feet of the camera, and that a small percentage of users may want to go further so they are offering a premium antenna for several hundred for the "true professional."

When RED gave me a free upgrade on my R1 audio board they had already clearly stated that they saw in-built audio recording as a scratch track for dual recording, but they still improved it and gave it to me free, including free shipping.

I don't think I could name another company that would do this and and am very grateful and will stay that way.

I also agree.

Installed new antennae in cameras yesterday... Now when someone asks is the Redmote worth it, I can easily say definitely!

We received our Redlink Antenna today, with two Torx Wrench No6!!!
What a pain, US mesurement aren't easy to find here in Tuscany, especially where we are base.
I need to find a Torx wrench No8 (US size I presume) now!
Anyway thanks to the Red guys who never let me down.
Regards
B.

Torx sizes are standardized, there is no differentiation between US/Imperial and Metric for Torx... A T8 is a T8. That said, small sizes (T9 and lower) can be hard to find at times. That's really generous of Nick / RED to send them out too. :)

Just finished upgrading both of our EPIC cameras with the new antennas. Notice that the old antenna was a board with circuits and the new one is just aluminum... wondering why the old one was a board with circuits? Are there any extra functions that the old antenna had?

Brice, sorry to hear that. Please email upgrades@red.com and we'll send you a T8 Torx wrench.
NICK
No worries Nick.
I'll contact the team, because I doubt I'll find this Torx wrench in the country side.
Even if the amount of Red user did grow, one thing didn't change; customer service still rock.

Good to know, thanks for the tip Jeff.

I just installed my new antenna and with my Epic inside my studio I can control it with my Remote outside the building about 60 feet away, with several vehicles , etc., plus the building wall between me and the camera. Awesome upgrade! Thank you Red Team...you rock big time!

Received e-mail notification from RED a few weeks ago that the EPIC-X we have (#2330) needed the new antenna -- we had it sent out -- then opened up the EPIC for the install to discover it already had the new antenna. (P.S.- The RedMote had been performing flawlessly.)

So somewhere deep in RED records, (in this one and perhaps isolated instance) they didn't know what had been done where and what with this EPIC.*

*Disclaimer: RED Records Dept may be like the warehouse at the end of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. It IS a potential issue on a number of levels though if RED are making this mistake on a wider scale. Having said all that, this EPIC is nevertheless about to wind its way back across the oceans on a robot-holiday for a no audio issue.

Good to hear Paul, that's pretty typical of the range and robustness we'd expect to see.
