  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another taste...

He can't stop thinking about it!

That's the beauty of RED.

D

You're right. I wanted to say: We would also need to make him stop thinking about his stuff

So I meant that not asking for stuff wouldn't work because he's always working on his ideas :-)

This modular / high processing power ability (EPIC) has got me wondering...

Can you have more than one RED MAG 128 module in line?
..
How about a way to shoot in RAW to one Mag, and then have the Camera create FF1080p files on the fly (or when idle) to the other 128 MAG?
..
Imagine that the Camera can create FF1080p or even lower-res clips for Dailies on set. ..

The higher end DSLR's can do similar things, e.g. driving a backup copy to a 2nd CF OR pushing JPGs to the 2nd storage (2nd is SD on some) for easier viewing, mailing, sorting.
Pretty much what we what we need every day, right ? RAW for finishing, ProRes for editing, or some other flavour, what about a proxy MP4 ?

Just iPhoning.

it is a proxy - you can't edit them and still have to convert to some other format. a real, self contained format would be my pleasure. I don't care, if it some awkward *.avi with whatever codec as long as PC and Mac can work with it.
Errr. is there any... ?-)
Ok, lets stick to Quicktime then... with an DNxHD Codec. I bet Avid will allow RED to incorporate the code immediately. Works on PC and Mac, can be edited, includes TC..
At least one possiblity. Or take an MJpeg codec, there are solutions, better for editing than REDcode.

Concerns

Thanks for including the wireless Redmote. Thanks for the T2.4.

I can be patient, and I know Jim won't let us down, but I am a little concerned about what we might have lost from the original Scarlet, in the name of modularity:

Audio: Most importantly, I hope we still get balanced audio inputs in the base configuration.

LCD: I love that it is still an LCD rather than an EVF. I love that it is removable. I know Jim said it is a placeholder, but I hope it gets bigger.

CF slots: I hope it still has dual slots (or an SSD slot).
